Update - May 9, 2020 4:30 PM PT

Tesla has officially filed suit against Alameda County, asking the court to grant injunctive relief on the basis of there being "no rational basis" for the factory shutdown.

Details @ https://www.cnbc.com/2020/05/09/tesla-files-suit-against-californias-alameda-county.html

Update - May 9, 2020 10:30 AM PT

Elon Musk may have just have tipped Texas as the location for the Cybertruck factory. Late this week, Tesla attempted to reopen the Fremont factory after the California Governor gave the go ahead for manufacturing to begin resuming operations with proper safety protocols in place. But, Alameda County, where the Fremont factory is located, shut down Tesla’s attempt to restart production.

In response, within the last hour, Musk announced on Twitter that Tesla is filing a lawsuit against the county:

“Tesla is filing a lawsuit against Alameda County immediately. The unelected & ignorant “Interim Health Officer” of Alameda is acting contrary to the Governor, the President, our Constitutional freedoms & just plain common sense!”
Musk then announced that Tesla will be moving its headquarters and future programs to Texas and Nevada:

“Frankly, this is the final straw. Tesla will now move its HQ and future programs to Texas/Nevada immediately.”
He then further suggested that Tesla might not even keep the Fremont factory:

“If we even retain Fremont manufacturing activity at all, it will be dependen on how Tesla is treated in the future. Tesla is the last carmaker left in CA.”
Since Tesla currently has no operations in Texas (it already has a Gigafactory in Nevada), this could be the biggest clue yet that Musk may have already decided on Texas as the location for the next giga (tera?) factory, which will be used for Cybertruck production.

Update - April 29, 2020

In the Q1 earnings call today, Elon shared that the next Giga announcement will be possibly within a month and definitely within 3 months. It will be in the U.S.

Update - April 24, 2020

Cybertruck gigafactory location updates from Musk today:

"Needs to be more than halfway to east coast."

"Yes."
(when asked if Giga Texas was still on the table)

"Not saying new Giga will be in Texas, but Cybertruck will be produced there wherever it is, as Fremont is at max capacity."

Original post - March 10, 2020

Elon Musk just tweeted this revealing that Tesla is scouting locations for a Cybertruck Gigafactory and it will be located somewhere in central USA.

Could the Cybertruck Gigafactory be in Texas, as Musk previously may have hinted at in this Facebook poll.

Update: Tennessee could be a front-runner according to reports by Techcrunch.

Where do you think the factory should or will be built?

I vote for Texas...but only after the legislature gets a divorce from the stealerships.

KY would be nice...not many more deserving

Maybe even eastern KY/WV,theres a labor force in coal country
Not that much labor is needed... it's mostly robots. I'm guessing they want easy access to transport lines and that rules out eastern ky and WV.... also they are eastern, not really central. Which makes Texas or WI a good choice.

Why not just build it somewhere close to the west coast since that is where most of the vehicles are sold anyway? One thing he should definitely take in to consideration is states that are offering rebates for EVs. He should reward those forward looking states since that is part of the company's mission statement.

If they want to have a vehicle with the smallest carbon footprint, it should be built somewhere where the energy mix is predominantly renewable. In British Columbia, 94% of our electricity comes from hydro power.

It should be in Geronimo, Texas. (Near New Braunfels, TX, between San Antonio and Austin).

Close to I35, rails, I130, and heavy talent in Austin and surrounding areas. No unions. Lots of blue collar workers and professionals. Cheap, flat land.
