Update: sorry everyone, it was production that Elon referred to, not delivery date.

The Q2 earnings call is happening right now and Musk just said that he expects Cybertruck deliveries production to begin mid-2023. He also added that it "might be our best product ever."

Whew, thought he just said they're leaning toward a radical redesign effectively looking like a model Y instead, only coming in white, and has a 3 year delay!

That's one year from now. Seems optimistic considering the state of the assembly line, but if any company can pull it off it's Tesla.

All they really need at this point is the "GigaOrigami" machine

Why is that optimistic? Seems like a realistic timeline based on all other evidence.
  • The design has been finalized. It can be assumed that the final design includes a breakdown of how they will source / manufacture all parts, a plan for how those parts are built, by what equipment, ect.
  • Austin is now officially launched and ramping up Model Y through the end of the year, this is mainly important as they have someplace to build the line(s) as they receive the equipment.
  • Many key pieces of equipment are reported to have been ordered/are in process of being shipped (Gigapress, equipment for drive units). We likely only know tidbits about what is going on in the supply line, as that isn't generally public information.
  • 4680 cells are being produced and they have had a test deployment to Model Y out of Austin (the Grade C version as Elon described it) to learn from. The internal lines are being improved and challenges addressed. That design will be iterated on per Musk with the Cybertruck likely have more of a Grade B version when it launches. Also, it should be noted that outside vendors will also be producing 4680 cells at some point.
  • Historically, has it taken Tesla more then a year to install and get a new line outputting the first few vehicles? I can't think of a case of it taking more then a year. Yes, when it launches it will be a slow output at first, before ramping up to full production over a roughly year timeline, all while implementing improvements to increase efficiency and increase output, so they probably will not deliver a ton of them at first.

Even then, I'd assume that the Spielbergs and the like that will be getting theirs first.

I've been saying for a while that no matter how close us plebs are to the front of the line, the high profile and top trim deliveries will have priority.

The answers to the 4680 questions seemed somewhat evasive to me. My confidence level in deliveries next year has dropped. FSD has been coming next year for the last 4 yrs. I hope 4680 isn’t following the same path.

Elon said Cybertruck would start production in middle 2023 and expect Cybertruck will be best product Tesla has ever made.
He did not use the word "deliveries".

In the earnings call podcast below, after quick title intro it starts right away with Elon speaking. Elon and Drew talk about optimization of structural battery and 4680 ramp.

Oops, there was a second time that start of Cybertruck was mentioned.

" when will Cybertruck be officially available"

I could not tell exactly what Elon said on this second time. Could listeners post what they hear at 42:52.
