With the new administration's promised reversal of the $7,500 EV incentive, which Elon supports, and lower than expected demand at current pricing, shouldn't we expect further reductions in the pricing of the CyberTruck soon? I'm not talking about the single motor variant. It seems to me that there is a significant number of purchasers are waiting on the incentive to become official, but if ultimately it will not happen, or won't happen for long, shouldn't Elon address the main barrier to sales, that being it is still too expensive for what we get?

I would think that the $7500 tax credit would be in effect through 2025 even if they do rescind it. Whether or not they put the Cybertruck on the list by then is a mystery to me. I bet they do. That would give Tesla another year to get their costs down such that they can eventually lower the price to compensate for losing the credit.

Too expensive for what we get? Ok, maybe try buying a "Cybertruck" on Temu instead 🤦‍♂️

This is a good thing. If you can’t afford it go Kick Rocks. It’s time the Government went back to the 80’s where we had the have and have nots.

Not everyone has to have the same, work hard and get what you want. These hand outs with leases and incentives should have been gone a while back.

Feel free to quote me on this in a few months.

They'll remove the tax credit as is and you'll see another credit or subsidy coincidentally tailored to tesla.
I mean, Telsa is without a doubt the most "made in USA" vehicle in production right now 🤷‍♂️

We need a strong resurgence of domestic manufacturing. Badly.

There is a real ceiling on how many haves exist in our society. A vehicle priced for the haves will have a low sales ceiling. What the market needs are some quality EVs of all sorts for the have nots.
The CT is a have vehicle. Has power, utility, tech, style although controversial, lovers, haters, and a commensurate price tag. It was previewed and marketed as a broad market appeal vehicle capable of dethroning the F150. Of course the have nots are unhappy.

This has been a joke all along.. look at the percentage of people who actually genuinely qualify.. (without owning a business)

And the last incentives… they all (Tesla included) just fluffed the price to avoid actually passing the savings to the people it would actually benefit.. unless you chose the lease loophole…

So damn lame…

I haven’t looked at the current Model3 and ModelY ‘strategies’, so maybe they have changed face…for now, till after election when the chaos will return as usual.

$0.02

If they really wanted to push the EV initiative, simple give a rebate/off sticker (let the dealers deal with report to IRS, that part of their duty)
To all who buy, limit is to one-time purchase per 3years…

And when the funds run dry, mission accomplished.. wash, rinse, repeat..

Considering Rivian and Ford losses of $35 - $45k per EV sold, it is possible the end of federal incentives, both for manufacture and buyer, could result in numerous legacy auto companies stopping EV production.

BMW makes a profit on their EVs. One assembly line, both ICE and EV produced on the same line. Can't say the same regarding profit for GM, Ford, VW,....

Will be interesting to see how Trump's "end the EV mandate on day one" will play out. Sample size two: I would not have purchased either of my Teslas without the $12,500 tax refunds (Fed + Colorado).

Elon was clear that he doesn't want the EV rebate BUT only if the federal government removed all fossil fuel subsidies as well. Thats a big change going against many entrenched interests.

But..... if that is pulled off. Expect gas prices to go up significantly. EVs will be in high demand because they will be the clearly cheaper and better option for most people. Prices of EVs will rise to be lifetime cost equal to gasoline vehicles. And Ford / GM / Rivian will be the loosers because even at the higher prices they still loose money on every EV sold.

Add in the tariff plan. And the cost competitive ICE parts supply for GM / Ford / Dodge / Rivian / Honda / Kia dries up. And imported vehicles will become too expensive to make sense. Tesla is the most vertically integrated manufacturer in the US, they will grow while the others go bankrupt.

Tesla wins. consumers loose. you loose. be prepared to pay more for...... everything in the short run. If we survive it, the US once again becomes a manufacturing powerhouse and long term, we will likely be better for it. But expect lots of pain over the next few years as it all shakes out.

None of us have a crystal ball. But I'm already in strategy meetings this morning planning for massive in-sourcing of our parts supplies. So, I guess buy TLSA stock and hunker down.

Yes. When credits were introduced, all companies raised their prices by the exact amount. When it's gone, they will do the same. Credits are a gift to corporations, not consumers. Companies price the cars at the exact amount customers can pay.

Ford isn’t going anywhere and won’t be giving up the truck crown anytime soon. They don’t need government incentives. What they need is a collaboration with Tesla using their tech.

Tesla manufacturing by design omits workers inclusion.

e: you're gonna get major factories funded by tax payer money that does not benefit actual workers.
