Has anyone experienced an issue with no heat? Located in MN and temps are currently sub-zero.

Dropped my son off at hockey practice last night with the temp around 0.. heat was working fine. Went home for an hour and tapped the fan button within the app to pre-heat the car before picking him up. The car was freezing when I got in, fan was blowing cold air. I tried multiple settings, defrost, turned off/on, I could not get the heat to come out.

Ran into a similar issue this morning. It's currently -7 and my wife "preheated" the car before taking the kids to school. She called me on the way, I can see the interior temp is currently 13 degrees. She's not happy.

I created a service request, the soonest appointment is January 6th.. there's no way I can wait a month to get heat back!!

Yikes! I put the heated seats on this morning when it was 55 at 8 Am! Hey in the mean time maybe you can use a portable heater since there are electrical outlets when you are in the car?

There have been a few reports of this issue. Operation at very cold temperatures puts additional stress on the heat pump, and it's possible that it is shutting itself off. For a ruggedized vehicle like CT, I wonder if they will consider adding resistive heating as an emergency backup in a gen2 design.

Did you try navigating to a supercharger to precondition? Just wondering if that would make any difference. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

...and I suspect that there is very little heat to extract from outdoor air at those temperatures. Residential heat pumps don't work very or at all below zero.

Isn't there a backup resistive element in the heater unit?

I just tried this.. it showed the battery pre-heating. I gave it about 20 minutes, still no heat.

At this point the exterior temp is up to 4 degrees (F). If this is normal for a heat pump.. this is not acceptable.

I had this issue they had to eventually replace my compressor but it took 3 service trips in peak summer with no AC!! They used dye to track a potential leak and replaced the compressor.

Early Teslas used PTC ("positive temperature coefficient") electric heater cores, but no more. The "A/C" is actually a heat pump, moving heat either into or out of the cabin.

Normally, heat is emitted from the batteries, PCS ("power conversion system") electronics, computer, and motors. Excess heat is routed into the cabin when requested. If there is insufficient "excess heat" then the PCS electronics are operated in a lower-efficiency mode, causing them to get hotter, essentially making them into a makeshift PTC heater. The best part is no part!

Of course, none of that matters if the heat pump is malfunctioning. There's a separate cooling loop for the pack/motors/electronics but the cabin environment is managed by the heat pump.

Also here in MN but my CT heat has been working fine so far in the sub zero temps.

I Typically don't park outside overnight - longest I've parked outside during this cold snap is about 7 hours

My Daikin home heat pump (2021) is good to minus 15 F. A lot better than 20 years ago.
