So the passenger's door is going to be much harder than the driver's because you are on the wrong side of the car from the antenna. The car just isn't hearing your phone.
Bring the phone up to window height and it will probably work quickly.

I had the exact same issue today. I approached from the passenger side, the door wouldn't open. I just turned around and "presented butt" and the door opened.
Sorry, it was the car key not the phone key.

Sorry, not really.

WiFi is only how the update is downloaded. The notification that the update exists comes over cellular.

Since WiFi is the ONLY way to download most updates, it's not really faster than anything else.
I have executed an update while parked at work place parking lot so it is possible. What are people who live in apartments and do not park nearby do to get their updates?

There have been a few, I mean one or two, updates that are allowed over the cellular connection (which only happens after days of trying WiFi)

You just have to give the car some WiFi. For most people, that's probably just turning on the hotspot on your phones. For some that means going somewhere where there's free WiFi without a captive portal.

I have vary between a cellular hotspot and my phone's hotspot.

Tesla used to send them over cellular, but around 4 years ago, it probably got too expensive and implemented the WiFi solution.

Downloading 6 million Gigabyte files over cellular a few times a month is pretty expensive.
