Interesting for sure. If people are willing to pay dealer markups, Im sure they would pay a resale markup. A big one too.

The comments in the article on how to limit resale is to only lease the vehicle and control the ownership.

It makes sense for a while. But it is basically manipulating the market and just makes things look better than they really are for a short while.

The problem is that the cost to build the truck is high but Ford doesn't want to shock the market with a high price tag. So they keep the truck retail price "reasonable" even though the market would currently bear a much higher price. But with material shortages, the number of available Ford trucks will be fairly low for a long while. So eventually these early trucks will be allowed to be sold at market prices.

If the true cost and retail value of the trucks starts to be shown in the market place, Ford's reputation as the truck to buy will start to lose its luster. Instead, normal Joe's will just see Ford trucks as too expensive to buy.

When the CT comes out, it will be interesting to see the retail price and the profit margin. If the Tesla truck price is considerably lower than the Ford truck price and Tesla ramps up to be producing many more trucks (think Tesla long term contracts for materials) than Ford can make (remember those material shortages?) there are going to be a large number of Truck people turning their gaze from Ford to Tesla. Even if they supposedly don't like the look.

As we have seen in housing, those with money to burn will always just double the price and not wait in line or delay gratification. The hedge fund manager or C class executive that wants to look cool driving the latest thing will find a way...

Not sure about 80%.... Government contracts (especially the war machine) is a pretty large budget. And social services tend to be highly restricted in what they can negotiate on prices.

It damages the source brand if this occurs too egregiously. It's not like the money goes to the manufacturer or worker. Buy low, sell high is actually more a problem for our economy - money basically vanishes from cycling when this occurs. It looks like growth, but is in fact phantom - because it is. It's why our economy can look like it's contracting this month when more people are working than last month.

Criminal markups, no resale clauses, getting sued for a share of profits when you sell your vehicle? Wow, the dealer buying experience is getting downright hostile!

I guess building customer loyalty is a thing of the past.

Who needs customer loyalty when you are going to be out of business soon. Dealerships are part of a dinosaur business model. There is a huge astroid approaching very quickly.

So, when you find out the Lightning is a piece of shit, they don't want you to be able to unload it? WOW.
There's a bunch of people wanting to unload their Ford Mach-E lately. About 10 days ago Ford put out a massive recall on almost 49K of them, and ordered all dealers to stop all sales of Mach-E's.

There's always the possibility you could be correct!!!
