It happened last August in a CA lab but disclosed to public now.

Big step for the future of electricity generation. Next step figure out how to harness it.

"Ignition during a fusion reaction essentially means that the reaction itself produced enough energy to be self-sustaining."
"Ignition occurs when the heating from absorption of α particles [two protons and two neutrons tightly bound together] created in the fusion process overcomes the loss mechanisms in the system for a duration of time,"

We have had fusion for millennia. Comes up every morning and runs 24hours a day around the globe. 🙂

Yeah, that is ALL they have to do now. I’ll wait, another 60 years or so.

I was told this was just around the corner 60 years ago.

That's interesting. Now, can they make money doing it?

I know that they will spend money trying to make it work.

As a energy system it only really makes sense for space travel, but only if they get the shielding and system mass to something comparable to a chemical rocket. Otherwise I'm not a fan of centralised generation that this would promote further.

That's true. One or two people stand to make a lot of money from this... Maybe three.
