In just a week, partner and I will embark on our epic trip to Alaska starting from Havasu, AZ. It's taken a whole year of planning equipment, travel route, charging strategy, etc. The equipment includes a Urander bed rack with an Inspired Overland carbon fiber rooftop tent. I added a 420W solar panel to the tent with a 24V 2.56kWh LFP battery, Renogy Rover charger controller, and 300W pure sine inverter to power appliances, Starlink, electric blanket, and electronics devices. I'm taking along a Westinghouse iGen4500 dual-fuel generator, 50 lbs of propane, and an empty Jerry can in case I need to resort to burning gasoline. Propane is widely available, however. A 30lb bottle of propane will put a bit over 30 kWh of energy into the truck battery from the 30A TT-30 outlet on the generator (limited to 24A on the mobile charger). One can expect an efficiency of at least 500 Wh/mi driving on Alaska roads which can be challenging to drive on and are constantly being repaired.

Charging as far as Beaver Creek, YT won't be a problem since BC Hydro has installed 100kW chargers along the Yellowhead and Stewart-Cassiar Highways from Prince George, BC to Watson Lake, Yukon:
Tesla Supercharge (3036 Recplace Dr, Prince George, BC) 154km/96mi ->
BCHydro (111 Chowsunket St, Fraser Lake, BC) 70.2km/45mi ->
BCHydro (299 Yellowhead Hwy #16, Burns Lake, BC) 144km/90mi ->
BC Hydro (3767 Second Ave, Smithers, BC) 116km/72mi ->
BCHydro (1566 Kitwanga Rd N, Kitwanga, BC) 213km/132mi ->
BCHydro (222 5th Ave Stewart, BC) 154km/96mi ->
BCHydro (249 BC-37, Kitimat-Stikine A, BC) 240km/149mi ->
BCHydro (100 Boulder St, Dease Lake, BC) 137km/85mi ->
BCHydro (7PW6+32, Good Hope Lake, BC) 141km/88mi ->
BCHydro (Lower Post St, Stikine Region, BC) 165km/103mi

From Watson Lake, YT to Tok, AK there are Flo chargers (many just 50W, unfortunately)
FLO (Swift River Rest Area, Swift River, BC) 121km/75mi ->
FLO (Nisutlin Drive, just off the Alaska Highway, Teslin YT) 54km/34mi
FLO (Canol Road rest area, Johnson’s Crossing YT) 83km/52mi ->
FLO (1 Army Beach Drive, Marsh Lake YT) 43.1km/27mi ->
FLO (30 Electra Crescent, Whitehorse YT) 177km45mi ->
FLO (Cranberry Rd & Old Alaska Hwy, Yukon) 83km/52mi ->
FLO (280 Alaska Highway, Haines Junction YT) 122km/76mi ->
FLO (KM 1701, Alaska Highway, Burwash Landing YT) 170km/106mi ->
FLO (Km 1870, Alaska Hwy, Beaver Creek YT) 177km/110mi -> Tok, AK

Going from Whitehorse to Dawson City to Fairbanks:
FLO (121 Tantalus Cres, Carmacks, YT) 107km/67mi ->
FLO (4 School Avenue, Pelly Crossing, YT Petro Gas Station) 70km/44mi ->
FLO (Klondike Hwy, Stewart Crossing, YT) 249km/155mi ->
FLO (1102 Front St, Dawson City, YT) 187mi ->
Tundra RV Park (Milepost 1315 Alaska HIghway Tok, AK) 106mi ->
Draft House & Lodge (1271 Richardson Highway, Delta Junction, AK) 97mi ->
FLO (758 Illinois St, Fairbanks, AK 99701)

The road from Dawson City to Tuktoyaktuk, NT on the Arctic Ocean is a snap charging wise:
48 kW Tesla NACS Wall Chargers have been installed at Eagle Plains, Inuvik, and Tuktoyaktuk

Charging in Alaska is lacking compared to BC and YT. Chargers on the Dalton Highway from Fairbanks to Deadhorse on the Arctic Ocean are virtually non-existent. There are other stretches that cannot be driven without supplementary charging. Even going from Anchorage to Valdez, 300mi, is impossible without charging somewhere en route, like at a campground or at a parking lot 120V 15A outlet which are ubiquitous in Alaska for head bolt heaters in the dead of winter.

I'll add to this thread as the trip progresses. Stay tuned.

When you get to fairbanks hollar at me, we can go out for dinner if you'd like. Ive had mine up here since December and there is only 1 other owner in Fairbanks.

Id love to hear about your charging solutions, ive seen your threads but its too much for my simple mind haha. I like how you got camping, solar and propane charging figured out. Goodluck! The views will be amazing so jealous! Hopefully we are not a smoke filled state from wild fires when you arrive. Either way we will be cruising around using our hepa filters breathing good!

Best of luck on your trip. I'll be waiting for these updates and have to live vicariously through you, as this is a bucket list trip for me. Unfortunately, there is no way to get a month off from work.

Are you hitting up any of the Wall Connectors Teslatino, and Bearded
Tesla Guy installed with their Arctic Expedition?

Dawson City is a destination on our clockwise travel route. Heading north to Tuktoyaktuk is definitely a possibility depending on time and stamina.

It’ll be a great trip. I’ve done the same many times over the last 30 years. Sadly in gas trucks or sedans. I suggest you try and squeeze in the side trip over to Stewart/Hyder, it’s gorgeous and worth the hour or two. Also, my highlight has always been from Dawson City up to Inuvik. This is easily done in a Tesla. All the way back in 2015, there was an 84 year old guy who did it in a Model S. It’s been conquered several times since. Now there are a few level 2 chargers more than there was is 2015. Enjoy!

Wow, an adventure of a lifetime! Are you using the LP for anything else, like cooking, or is it only emergency power?

Cooking from a 20 lb bottle. Charging from a 30 lb bottle. Although there are plenty of CCS and J1772 chargers available on the trip, there will be times when a charger is out of service or being used by another EV. That's when having a generator, even supplying only 24A (2880W), is nice to have.
