Question to clarify on the Powerwall update. Does this new software/Powerwall update mean that we'll be able to do at least power to home (and perhaps power to grid where allowed) without the installation of the Tesla Gateway? Will the current Powerwall 3 be sufficient?

Powershare Gateway (3V) is only needed for Powershare only setups.
If you have a Backup Switch or other version of Gateway, that is all that is needed.

I have 3 power walls (part of the power plus program through my utility- no cost to me except that the utility can draw backup power from them if needed so it becomes a mini-grid - which is a good thing in case of wildfire or other disasters) and I got a gateway as part of my Foundation purchase. Can the Cybertruck use the Powerwall gateway? (and if that's the case what else do I need to get the Cybertruck as an additional backup to the power walls?

I'm far from an expert in this but my understanding is exactly that. But that doesn't mean every configuration will be supported. I'm guessing their are ways your system could have been designed that would require re-configuring it for the update to provide the desired functionality. Maybe @mongo has more input on this. The update hasn't been released yet so we really don't know all the details yet either.

We will know when the update is released but it sounds like @mongo has a better handle on the various possible configurations than I do. One thing that makes this complicated is the country/N. America is a big place and different utilities and regulators have different rules for what's allowable.

If I had to guess I would say the initial update will not work in every location with every configuration.

That doesn't make any sense to me. My understanding of the claim was that solar was bad for battery health because it was somehow "dirty" electricity.

I think we can just write it off as manufactured FUD, designed to confuse and dissuade people from going solar/battery. In any case, not worth spending another minute of time on.

Dang I get excited every time I see a thread around this, but it's the same.
Made the same promises back in 2p24, and in 2025. I sure hope this is the year of they give up.

I've got an ar migration demand letter in route as this is ridiculous at this point. Value was sold as expected in 2024 but never came.

I’m pissed too, don’t get me wrong, I have a lot invested in both truck and powerwalls but the same promises were made by Ford who charged some people 18k for the sunrun setup and also did a presidential infomercial about it basically. Right after the “summit” on the electrification of American roads that included everyone but the number one producer and seller of American EV’s.
I’m yet to hear of a real world example where Ford’s system works well for someone though. Please correct me if I’m wrong.
And yet, for some reason I’m not seeing people crawling up Farley’s ass with lawsuit threats even though they have gone as far as discontinuing the lightning.
I just think as always that there is a bit of a double standard there.
Everything necessary to make this work is in place and I still have faith Tesla will deliver more than I ever had faith that others will.
It’s been unacceptably slow no doubt but nobody has said anything to the effect of this going the way of the range extender.

One of the primary reasons I ordered the El Cheapo CT is that it represents 7-8 Powerwalls. I currently produce more solar than I consume daily in Hawaii. My 3 Powerwalls get me through a day without sun. But with the CT "extender" I can get thru a week when a Hurricane passes…or the zombie apocalypse. I will be effectivley "off grid." Powershare can't come soon enough with our electric rates that woud make your eyes water.

YEP. Close to the same here in Colorado. New fires starting up daily and June/July never gets any rain.
