I went to a shop that was pretty bad too. If your shop is only 1 or 2 ppl., run. He is a DIYer. No matter what your follow up is, he will do a bad job unless he is a large shop that has an experienced crew that worked on many types of vehicles and shapes.

I got my Cybertruck wrapped by someone that is only 1 person shop and he gets help with someone for tinting windows. There are many shops that are 1/2 people and these may be some of the best shops around to get work like this done. I don't agree with this statement at all.

Check his work with cars done by experienced high volume larger shops. I have seen some bad wraps compared to them. You know who they are. TSportsline and OCD are the go to shops. You get what you paid for. My colored PPF was under $3,000 done by 1 person with a hired temp guy. I can show you how comical his work is. I am fine with it though because it’s a $3,000 job but I will not recommend his shop or give him a bad review. I understand what I got vs what I paid. My cousin’s wrap at a well known place was $6,000 and it was flawless.

It doesn't need to be a big shop. There are professionals that have small businesses that are as good as TSportsline and OCD, maybe even better since they do all the work themselves and don't have a weak or new installer working for them. The shop I use is one guy that has been wrapping cars himself for 8 years. Just because you found an amateur that doesn't know how to properly wrap cars, doesn't mean all small shops are bad.

The shop I went to wrapped a few. He is on YouTube and did a few CTs already. He will get better since this is new but I only found out afterwards he has only been wrapping for a year. I followed a YTer to his shop and made a mistake. However, like I said. I am fine since it was a $3k job. I will send you some pictures when I’m back at my truck. It’s a DIY job.

From my experience it’s always you get what you paid for. For example, my cars that goes to Signature Glass Tinting in Costa Mesa is done flawlessly (@$750) vs my other Teslas done at a shop with 1 or 2 people (@$350). My CT front glass was $500 (2 person shop) and you can tell it’s a $500 job, not a $1,300 job from SGT (a dozen workers and family members running

I recently had my beast wrapped in STEK Dynomatte Black. I love the overall look but am having some doubts on the quality of the install. I have a follow up appointment in 10 days to address any lifting or other concerns.

Aside from some edges pulling back which I was told was normal and would be addressed in the follow up meeting I am trying to determine if my expectations were too high or if the quality of the craftsmanship is lacking. I paid $7,700 for the PPF install for context.

For example, here is a picture of the driver’s side door jam with the wrapped edges. I feel like the cuts can be much cleaner and not resemble something a child would cut. Am I wrong here?

I plan to raise these concerns with the shop when I go back but wanted to see if was being too critical. Thoughts?

I am holding off on naming the shop until we’ve discussed further.

It looks like they opted for a bulk installation rather than using extended precut kits, which typically offer a cleaner finish with no cutting involved. The good news is that they left plenty of room for trimming the material, but they should be cutting along a straight line since there’s a clear guide to follow. I’m sure they can address the issues on the doors, but it's important to request their most experienced technician for the cutting to avoid any risk of cutting into the stainless steel.

Yes, you’re 100% correct! There are some fantastic independent shops, some top-notch medium and larger shops, and then there are a few land mines sprinkled in for good measure! LOL. It’s like choosing a restaurant—you can go for that hidden gem with rave reviews, hit up a reliable chain where you know what you’re getting, or roll the dice on that place with “character” that might serve you a gourmet meal or, well… a surprise! The question is, do you want consistency or are you feeling adventurous?

This is not a good install. I'd give them the chance to correct it and hopefully they do. Maybe they just hired a new installer and you were their guinea pig.

What's the going rate for installer pay? Seems like these shops are getting $100+/hr for labor

For the installer? probably 25$ hourly, or $5-7 per sq ft on contract.

Shops are making 400-600% on bare costs.

Here is how my install looks on the edges. It was done by one person and not from pre-cut sheets of PPF. Even the installer was nervous about wrapping it over. He said it was a possibility that it would lift up and he checked his work after two weeks for an inspection. He said the time it takes to wrap a Cybertruck without wrapping over the edges is insane.

That is horrific for that price. It is horrible even for free... I paid $8500 for my PPF, but that included window tinting and also a ceramic coat. The shop that did mine in Fresno was amazing. He would have never let that leave his shop.
Hey there. I’m also in Fresno, would you mind sharing where you went? Sounds like it might have been elite auto spa?
