is the EST. $16,000 price I will have to pay to have it installed or are they saying this is the estimated cost of extender and putting the 500.00 deposit down is all that I am going to have to pay?

tbh, I think you know as much about the range extender as anybody else. As usual, it's been radio silence from Tesla.

They are saying what they are saying, no more and no less, and everyone is interpreting that with no other facts whatsoever. There can be logical guesses as to the size (KwH) and weight of the pack, etc., but they are still guesses. What seems odd to me is that the $500 is non-refundable. That is unlike Tesla. We can hypothesize that to the end of time also, but I'll just leave it as a curiosity.

think I am going to make a trip to my local Tesla and see if I can get some answers.
Let us know if you get any solid info, everything I have heard looks like the range extender may never be produced.

Everything out there now points to the range extender only being used in very early cybertrucks before the larger batty pack option is installed. Once the Foundation Series are done Tesla will push out the option with a 240kwh battery pack taking up the full battery capacity and giving the truck 600 miles or so.

Pretty much a done deal, it will allow Elon to keep his promise and why would they build extra battery capacity into the truck other than expanding the pack.
First generation FS are still fun around town cars, they will likely have a slightly faster 0-60 due to less weight so will be still in demand for people that want to go fast like me and don't plan on driving more than 100 miles.

Dude, here you are, lying about the range of the trucks again.

Stop littering every thread with this.

And yes, you're lying. Out of Spec got 300 miles at 70mph. That's quite a bit more than 'around town' or '100 miles'.

It reads to me like you'd still own $15,500 for the R.E. after depositing $500
and that it includes the cost of installation.
That verbiage seems straightforward to me.

That price should include installation. But remember it is an estimated price.
If this is your first EV, do yourself a favor and don't go for it. AFAIK, it's only a place in line and you can decide later if you really needed it.
300+ mile range is quite suitable for 99.9% of people's needs.

@FutureTruck Can you stop hijacking threads with this? You've already started your own thread, leave discussions there.

All drama aside, geeesh.

I gave Tesla my $500 just to get in line. Take my money Tesla, let’s see what you come up with and I’ll be glad to be one of the first to get it! 10 years of early adoption purchases for me and I’ve not regretted it. It’s honestly all so fun and cool to be on the front end of the tech. Blessed to be able to afford it!

If there is a 600 mile pack later on down the road, that would be epic. I hope it happens.

Service center will know NOTHING about this. Waste of time to even go ask IMO.

Just because the torn down battery pack appears to have some extra space, does not mean it could double the range. More batteries would add cost, weight, and require changes to the cooling and pack design to achieve the same 800V architecture. The range extender prob seemed like a better short term solution. Separate enclosed, creates a new product that the people who want to tow and go long distance can purchase but the rest who are happy with 300 miles don’t have to haul around mostly unused.
