Check out this photo of the the Cybertruck's rear view mirror. Looks like it's projecting an image of the vault cover? Which would mean we're looking at rear view mirror with display screen .

I would say if it was a mirror you would see the vault cover, but if it was a screen displaying a camera view, you would see outside of the truck. It would be useless to display inside the vault.

Just my thoughts.....

Having a camera into the vault isn't useless, but displaying it there is somewhat pointless.

I'm skeptical the interior displays remain on (even the mirrors) when the vehicle is off.

What we see here is most likely a glimpse of the internal venitian like structure of the mirror, however l am no expert in this digital world. You do know the Venitians explored the wide World.

I believe that it’s showing the top of the vault in the closed position.

Video clip? Like said earlier. It'd be kinda silly to show vault. Via mirror

Display screen mirrors are not exactly new. Magna launched its ClearView mirror in 2017. The latest version (which is presumably the CT version +/-) combines three cameras into one screen: the two side view and the rear view to create a single panoramic camera view

https://www.magna.com/company/newsr...iew-camera-monitoring-system-to-debut-in-2022

When it is off, it has mirrored surface and that is what we are seeing here.

Um, if it were a true mirror, the reflection you would be seeing is outside the driver side window and showing whatever is on the other side of the vehicle from the camera. You might also see the B pillar a bit.

Now, if the camera were sitting in the position of the driver's head, then yes, a mirror could quite easily be seeing the underside of the tonneau though you would probably also see the window to the bed, and the tops of the back seats.

The only way the rear view "mirror" would be showing the camera at the current angle anything to do with the tonneau is if it wasn't an actual mirror but instead had a projection from some camera somewhere.

+1

I do not see why they would have the primary view camera being inside the vault. I can see them having 'another' camera inside the vault (if they have that many cameras not being used for essential purposes - which I do not believe they do), so as much as they said that the rearview view would be a display this pic screams mirror. They could have a mirror with a digital overlay like many cars have but it still wouldn't make sense to show that overlay with the inside of the vault.

Personally I expected a rear-facing camera at the apex of the windows, maybe part of the rear-facing light bar (which we also haven't seen in a 'long' while). It would have an excellent view in most situations and work great with a rearview display.

That solves 2 issues for me: location of the side camera views, and an integrated view of sides and rear. I hope that Tesla implements something like this!!! Unfortunately, the view in the pic doesn't support this view.
