Yesterday invited to order the foundation series, there must be many folks passing as they have already surpassed folks that were in line at 775,000 reservation holders

I skipped in December and I’m still waiting for the FS to end, maybe even a little longer so Tesla can get it’s shit together to be a well-oiled machine (so to speak) making CTs/CBs with varied options without too many issues before I place my order.

I was gleefully a guinea pig 🐹 for the Model S initial release and I am still driving that car with 128k mi on it now. Looking forward to NOT being first in line for the growing pains for this vehicle launch, though. My Model S has only the rear view camera, no bumper sensors, and no auto fold for the side mirrors and i’ve been stuck with that config while they released FSD enabled hardware as standard and folding mirrors as standard, etc. There was no dual motor option when I bought mine so it is RWD.

I like to buy cars (and now trucks too I guess, lol) and keep them for a decade or more, run them into the ground and then trade up rather than trade up incrementally every 3 years like leases or frequent trade-ins. Makes it more affordable to really customize my ride and enjoy the mods and options.

Steer by wire and tri-motor with FSD and a proprietary Space X metal alloy are looking very good to me about now but I’m holding out for them dropping the $20k premium I would rather spend on wraps and accessories plus it gives 3rd parties time to develop more aftermarket product options as well.

So the wait continues…

FWIW.

Cheers, and thanks for the data point.

Could you share your Reservation Number? That would be more helpful to most I think, as I am at RN1149 and praying to receive an invite!

Do you take into consideration those out of the country (like our neighbors to the north and south) whose RN are lower but skipped anyway!

This is my first post, so take it easy on me!

I just got this email today from Tesla: " Your Limited-Edition Foundation Series Cybertruck is Ready to Order". I see that Drew got his invitation to order back in December but passed. I really don't care about whether it is a FS or not and feel the way Drew does - let Tesla get their Sh*t together and delay my order.

Drew - do you still get to keep your place in line and wait till you're ready to order and Tesla goes to the next person in line? How does this work? Do I respond to Tesla and say i want to wait a while before i order my CT? Any tips would be helpful to this Noobie! Thanks in advance to any advice, ElSyd

So far those that skipped FS have been able to keep the invitation to configure active. If you don’t want FS you simply do nothing. Don’t configure. No need to call or message anyone.

In some of the prior vehicle manufacturing ramp-ups they allowed people to delay and skip once for like 6 months and then cancelled them when they came back again 6 months later to ask if they skipped a second time is what I heard (or something similar to that effect—maybe someone else can confirm) but I wasn’t impacted by that so I have no firsthand experience. In those ramp-ups there was no ā€œFoundation Seriesā€ for the 3 or Y or the X to my knowledge. For the S there was a ā€œFounder’s Editionā€ but there were zero people skipping it because the deposit to get it was $25k already. It came with a unique shade of red paint and some other goodies I couldn’t afford at that time either. Nobody skipped the line that I knew of for the regular run at the beginning of the S either because that was a $5k deposit as well that most placed 5 years before they got the car.

Nobody knows what will happen if someone takes ā€œtoo longā€ (whatever that would
mean to Tesla) to configure after FS is over at this point. It is wait and see with no info from Tesla as far as I am aware. Hope that helps.

FWIW

Cheers

Thanks for your follow up. Good luck with your situation. I really don't want the FS either. I'd rather go with the AWD or all in with the CB. No sense going half way! lol, ElSyd

Waiting on $60K RWD CT

My guess is that the 95% of those who chose to ignore the $100k/$120k Limited Edition Foundation Series invite will eventually see their ā€œdesign nowā€ FS invite automatically switch to an invite for non-FS RWD, AWD and CyberBeast.

So, the first wave of FS invites (20,000?) would automatically switch overnight to non-FS Cybertruck’s, then the 2nd wave, etc.

In typical Tesla fashion this switch will silently occur without any fanfare or official announcements from the company. Tesla will let reservation holders spread the word through forums, social media, etc.

Based on your estimates, over 8 million CT's have been ordered, since were' now at 121XXX...that or it's actually not your place in line.

It's literally EVERY SINGLE TESLA ORDERED, not just CT.

So silly this post type keeps getting repeated over and over.

Yeah, my RN # minus 112,744,100 (the beginning RN equals 7,3xx,xxx. If production ramps up to 250,000 CT per year, then I’ll expect my order in 29 years. I’m 64 yrs old !!

The OP is exactly right. He ordered on 7/7/2020. Tesla reported over 250,000 reservations the first week after reveal so his place in line was >250k. By late spring press reports indicated based on tracking and customer reporting that the reservations had topped 500,000. In September on battery day Elon confirmed that ā€œI think maybe six-hundred thou -- it's a lot, basically. We stopped counting.ā€

OP may be more like 500k (unlikely) but certainly no less than that based on his order date and Elon’s confirmations in 2020.
