Elon mentioned that the side mirrors (required from manufacturer) would likely be easily removable on the CT. Is there any collection of what the local laws are in terms of requiring side view mirrors? I think that would be useful.

I went digging through an old thread on cameras vs mirrors and found this snippet:

California = Side mirror(s) required
CA Vehicle Code: Div 12, Chapt 4, 26709 (a) (2): Every motor vehicle subject to registration in this state, except a motorcycle, shall be equipped with not less than two mirrors, including one affixed to the left-hand side.

Interesting little law at your referenced link.

This section does not apply to an autonomous vehicle, as defined in Section 38750, that is not capable of operation by a human driver seated in the vehicle, provided that this exemption is consistent with, or authorized by, any applicable federal law, regulation, or exemption thereto.
So there is a provision for an autonomous vehicle. But not for a mixed-use vehicle that can be autonomous or human driven.

Umm.... You have side mirrors, or you don't have side mirrors. The question is if you don't have them.

Cops enforce what they want to enforce.

There are so many laws on the books they can and often do pull people over for any random thing.

When I lived in California my Jetta didn’t have front plates for 4 years with no issue. Then one day I met a friend on Patterson Pass and left my car parked at the park and ride there and got ticketed for it.

FWIW Oregon requires front plates and mirrors. I won’t be running front plates and If the Cybertruck mirror free experience is good I’ll skip those too.

So .. a few states require two mirrors of which only one is outside... What then? Do you ride around with just the left mirror? I mean, my 1965 Mustang only had the one. Well, it had a rearview mirror as well. Still, there was nothing on the right side.

Just put mirrored tint on the side windows and use the internal vanity mirror. That's at least two. Or just a couple of those stick on ones randomly over the car. ;) :ROFLMAO:

Surely there's a section that covers minimum size and orientation of said mirrors?

Put on plates, please.

Hit-and-run without plates is a thing. Just put them on.

Camera are legal in Australia.
But I expect if you tried to drive without a front plate they would straight up take your license away.

I have nothing to base this on other than assumptions I've made, but I've always thought the rule was you needed two of the three at a minimum. Either outside driver side and interior mirror, or outside driver side and outside passenger mirror. (Never thought about inside mirror and outside passenger, guessing that isn't allowed, that's just weird).
