Hey fellow Cybertruck enthusiasts,
From the moment I placed my day-one reservation, I've been fantasizing about the perfect overlanding rig, and now, that dream has become reality. After much contemplation on which roof rack system would complement my setup, I've decided on the @CYBERTRUCKco Molle Rack System. Here's a detailed breakdown and comparison with other companies to help you make an informed decision:
Durability and Material:
With an aluminum frame, the CYBERTRUCKco rack is not only light at 115 lbs but also incredibly sturdy, supporting a dynamic load of 440 lbs and a static load of 750 lbs. This outshines both Urander, which is heavier(140 lbs), and Mars Adventure Gears, which supports less weight(220 lbs). For anyone planning to top their vehicle with a rooftop tent, CYBERTRUCKco or Urander are the go-to choices for their exceptional load-bearing prowess.
Sleek Look, Height, and Aerodynamic Performance:
CYBERTRUCKco truly excels in both aesthetics and aerodynamics(personal opinion), adding a mere 1.25 inches to the Cybertruck's roof height, thereby preserving its distinctive, streamlined silhouette more effectively than Urander, which extends it by 3 inches. This subtle increase not only keeps the Cybertruck looking sharp but might also contribute to improved energy efficiency by reducing air resistance. While Mars Adventure Gears hasn't disclosed their height addition, visual assessments hint it's somewhat less imposing than both CYBERTRUCKco's and Urander's.
Additionally, considering that the average US garage door height stands at about 7 feet, if you're planning on fitting a rooftop tent, choosing a roof rack with the lowest profile like CYBERTRUCKco's could be crucial for garage accessibility.
Modular System:
Modularity is where CYBERTRUCKco really differentiates itself. Its rack system is designed for customization, allowing users to adjust the setup according to their specific needs. This feature is particularly appealing for those who want a personalized storage solution or need to adapt their rack for different trips or gear. Neither Urander nor Mars Adventure Gears explicitly mention a modular design, giving CYBERTRUCKco an edge for those who value flexibility.
Price:
Price-wise, CYBERTRUCKco's system is the most expensive at $2,999. While this might deter budget-conscious buyers, the price reflects its higher load ratings, lightweight, and modular capabilities. Urander offers a more budget-friendly option at $1,950, but at the cost of added weight and less sleekness. Mars Adventure Gears positions itself in the middle ground in terms of price but might not satisfy those looking for detailed specifications or the highest load capacity.
CYBERTRUCKco also provides base frame with same load rating for $1,699 and moto rack that matches similar look to Mars Adventure for $2,399. You can purchase base frame only and add molle panels, flat panels or anything you want later.
Real life energy efficiency:
Before installing the rack : total Avg. Energy : 398 Wh/mi (about 2000 mi)
After installation (with roof top tent and awning mounted)
Total Avg. Energy : 450 Wh/mi
Local Efficiency : 350~450 Wh/mi
Highway Efficiency under 75 mph : 450~500 Wh/mi
Highway Efficiency over 85 mph average speed : 550~600 Wh/mi
Comparison table
(Highlighted cells are the reasons I didn't go with them)
(Left Urander's with 3" taller than peak, right CYBERTRUCKco's. I really didn't like the highlighted slope of Urander's)
(Current setup with Molle Panels)
(Roof top tent, 270 awning with base frame without Molle Panels)
(Front view with Roof top tent mounted)
and I'm not affiliated with CYBERTRUCKco , paid full price for it.
