Short stature, slim, lightweight? Youtuber Kim Java broke Rivian glass roof by just leaning on it (NOT standing on roof).

Other owners of vehicles with glass roofs have had problems.

I have owned dozens of cars and never had problem with metal roofs. Problems with glass though. I never want glass roof but they are difficult to avoid because now they are standard on many vehicles. Ugh!

My 2023 DE has a cracked glass roof. Garage parking at home, and covered at work. This seems to be a manufacture defect to me, any thoughts? I bring it to service tomorrow.

The glass roof of my 2023 Cadillac DE Lyriq developed a long crack. I thought it was a stress crack (covered by warranty), but Cadillac says it was a stone chip (not covered by warranty).

My Porsche Tycan sunroof got a crack. Look likes it's a spread from one side. Likely something fell from above.

i got a rock chip on my glass roof, got a 6 inch line towards the front of the car. Insurance covered it. $4,500 for glass and $4,000 for labor.

The body shop cracked my windshield when they were removing the roof so insurance paid for that too.

After installing everything back, the roof cracked again so now i'm waiting for the 2nd roof to come in. Body shop/glass company will be paying for the 2nd roof. My deductible is $100, insurance paid $11k.

We have 3 six-year-old Tesla Model 3s and have never had a single pane of glass break on any of them. On the other hand, our 2010 F-150 had a mysterious broken windshield in the first year and our Volvo S80 had a broken windshield within 2 years.

The reason glass roofs are becoming so popular is they add significant safety in a side impact. You wouldn't think so, but laminated glass is strong and continues resisting even after it has cracked. Metal roofs just buckle and offer very little strength.

On top of that, they add headroom without making the frontal area of the car bigger (which would reduce highway range).

Correct me if I’m wrong, but I have seen multiple photos of Tesla vehicles in flipped over scenarios after a crash (albeit a rare scenario since it is almost impossible to flip these things), and the glass roof has maintained its integrity, as well as the entire superior structure of the cabin. Indicating the superior resilience of these vehicles in roll overs. There are many comparison photos of ICE vehicles that don’t hold up so well

Don't put a lot of weight on the roof overhang, though. It will deform and obstruct the tonneau cover from closing.
