Not sure if many of you have ever road trip'd in the United States in a Tesla, but range is not going to be as big a problem as you think. SCs are are so prevalent and popping up all over the place all the time. Now, if you plan to try and stay off grid, do your own thing in a CT, it is going to be difficult for you. That is not part of Tesla's business model and charging at a SC is integral to that.

We just did 2,900 miles in wifey's Y and it was great, much better than I thought it would be. The CT will be much less efficient than a X, but I still think it will be fine if you do your part, plan your routes, and don't think you can be Mario Andretti and defy physics with how you drive...

Hopeful that the above info does play out, they (as they have done in the past) just switch orders to whatever the like is, and even more hopefully don't increase the price. Wish us all luck!

When I road trip, I drive at nights so all my little ones are passed out. The more I drive without any distraction, the further I will get before the monsters wake up. So for me, range is a big deal for that reason alone.

Think the problem with stated ranges people are having is that it's not based on towing which will be much less range. There are a lot of users planning on towing, which is one of their big marketing points. So yeah range is probably fine for the average long distance trip. But not if you are towing the advertised capabilities.

I just did 20 hrs straight in one day. If I had 300mi range and barely get 150 miles or two hours before I have to pull over and charge every two hours. That makes for excruciatingly long trip. Currently I make about 5-6 hrs between needing to pull over for food, gas or bathroom. 400 mi tank.

The CT will need extra range for those towing.

Love the MM quote... Ha!

Again., I bet you will be able to do what you need to do with the CT IF/IF you play by the true rules of the Universe. Most folks won't want to, drive like idiots/inefficiently, and then cry about it... Just the way we humans operate.

Just one example of many. https://insideevs.com/news/532009/tesla-ukraine-fsd-unofficial-use/

I will not speak of what I have and do to what is legally mine.
What is "legally" yours is what you paid for as specified in the bill of sale. It has nothing to do with what a device is capable of doing. Possession has nothing to do with it. Most computer systems come with legal usage terms, in other words you really don't own the software, you are licensed to use it and that license can be revoked at any time. Hacking any operating system is in violation of your purchase agreement and has been supported in many courts. Go ahead and hack your CT and see what happens to it. I bet Tesla has plenty of backdoors to shut you down.

I read through and didn't see anyone say this. Just going by what I see, only one vehicle out of four in the current Tesla lineup has 3 variants. The M3, which has regular, long range, and performance versions. The rest only have a regular version and then a Plaid/Performance version. Also, only the S and X have motor variants (dual, and tri), and they only come in two variants.

If that's the case, the CT options would probably be regular (dual motor) and Plaid (quad). That would make the CTQ the one with a bigger battery for range and towing. Then, having the option of adding off-road/performance tires and a bit of kit, just like adding brakes and/or 21" wheels to the Model S Plaid. So pricing will probably follow the same convention of having two price tiers. The question is whether they'll try to keep pricing as close as they can (within reason) to their initial promise.

That also leads me to wondering about the brake setup since it's critical to both towing and performance. I don't tow or haul, so maybe someone can shed some perspective on towing brake setups.

No one has said it, but we can hope they straight swap reservations for the equivalent level model rumored to be offered. Single=dual, dual=quad, triple=plaid. Same price!

Wishful thinking but that would literally make everyone in line happy!

I would take two extra motors and 500 mi range for 50k with a shit eating grin on my face!
?
No one has really said it yet, but what if dual Motor is rear wheel drive (rear left, rear right) and then the quad motor is four wheel drive? That way all motors could be the same. Then plaid might get the carbon wrapped motors?
Makes sense. You could also do a pretty tight turn putting one rear wheel forward the other in Reverse.
