Drownings while in passenger vehicle is not just irresponsible drivers who intentionally drive into flooded roadway because they did not want to lose time detouring around.

There are a lot of incidents where roads are alongside a body of water and driver loses control of vehicle and travels into the water (ditch, canal, river, lake, bay, crash through bridge railings, off piers (pedal misapplication?), etc.)

About 300-400 deaths annually of accidents (vehicle falling into water, not flood) and result in drownings while in passenger vehicle just in U.S. The previous number does not include fatalities by off-roaders or vehicle & driver/passengers on paved road washed away by flooding. Worldwide count must be much higher with some countries being especially vulnerable because of frequent waterway/roadway situations or high frequency/severity of flooding.

DROWNING DEATHS IN MOTOR VEHICLE TRAFFIC ACCIDENTS
By Rory Austin
National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, USA
Paper Number 11-0170 (corrected)
https://www.autosafety.org/wp-conte...Deaths-in-Motor-Vehicle-Traffic-Accidents.pdf

ABSTRACT

.....
From 2004 through 2007, there was an annual average of 384 traffic fatalities in FARS where accidental drowning was listed as one of the causes of death. Note, however, that this number may be slightly lower than the national total because of missing MCoD data from two States (Hawaii and Wisconsin). Also a few fatalities from December 2007 crashes may not have matching mortality data because the death occurred in January 2008. Drowning fatalities are more common in some States than in others. The top five States, which are all large coastal States, accounted for slightly more than half of the total drowning deaths in the 48 States and D.C.

.....
Two types of motor vehicle related drowning deaths are not included in FARS based upon the American National Standards Institute’s (ANSI) definition of a motor vehicle traffic accident. The first type is a drowning that occurs as the result of a nontraffic accident, which occurs off of public roads. While NHTSA collects information about nontraffic crashes, it does not have the multiple cause of death information to enable a similar analysis. The second type is a drowning as the result of a cataclysm, such as flooding, that is not a motor vehicle accident fatality per ANSI definitions. Including nontraffic and cataclysm cases would lead to a larger number of motor vehicle related drowning fatalities.

Entrapment and Submerged Vehicle Drowning Deaths

.....
National Highway Traffic Safety Administration reports that an average more than 300 vehicle occupants die in submersion type crashes each year, Florida leads the nation in such deaths. According to the Federal Highway Administration (FHA), Florida is one of the top 5 states to have the largest number of fatalities in crashes “where the most harmful event for the vehicle” was partially or fully being submerged in water.

The FHA data shows that Florida saw the highest overall number of fatalities in crashes that involved partially or fully submerged vehicles since 2014 to 2018 with a total of 179. Florida was also one of the states to account for slightly more than half of the total drowning deaths in 48 states and D.C.

The Associated Press reports that Palm Beach County alone has 317 miles of canals. Those are just the ones supervised by the South Florida Water Management District. Many more are run by local governments, farms or private entities. And that doesn't count natural or man-made lakes or ponds.

Two of the most deadly Palm Beach County Canals are the ones parallel to State Road 80 and Florida's Turnpike. Since 1997, 181 people have drowned in vehicles in Palm Beach County, according to the Drowning Prevention Coalition of Palm Beach County.

Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents - Vehicles in water
There are a worrying number of drowning victims that occur due to vehicles crashing into rivers, lakes, waterways and ditches and even in swimming pools.
RoSPA (UK, Canada, Worldwide)
https://www.rospa.com/leisure-water-safety/water/advice/vehicles

.....
Between 2000-2005 the average number of victims a year was over 20 (UK only ?).

Around 1 in 5 of these events resulted in multiple fatalities with between 2 and 5 victims.

Most commonly this type of fatality occurred in a lake, however roadside ditches are a concern

Did they come back to life and die again? How do you have multiple causes of death? 🥴

Here in Oz it's a big thing as well, but mostly in the east. Most of the incidents are because most people don't realise just how well cars float and are carried off the road and downriver where its deep. That or flash flooding. Many of our big city floods are caused by poor dam level management where authorities open the floodgates to late to keep precious drinking water.

The thing is a floating CT also makes a good rescue vehicle so long you don't have raging waters. CT would already make an awesome fire rescue vehicle, having amphibious takes the cake.

Florida... Saved from drowning only to be eaten by alligators and rogue super pythons.

Or maybe the CT can be used as a platform for hunting nutria.

I don't think I would want to be in a swamp type environment. The water line on Cybertruck would be pretty close. Might be too easy for a live something to crawl into the bed.

I would need a bigger boat.

Yeah, gotta be careful with the wild life.

On the Mississippi though, the CT might be ideal for "fishing". Just leave the tonneau cover open and drive up the river. In the cabin you are protected. Has to be the easiest fishing trip in the world.
