I can’t be the only one who thinks Tesla has nearly ruined the design by making the body shorter, narrower, and more boxy, while the bumper is much thicker. Thoughts?

Yes, I agree. Unfortunately that is the price to pay for efficiency. I'm sure aftermarket bumpers closer to the original design will be available in due time, if not from Tesla themselves.

I’d *strongly* expect the “squatted” position will be the ride height in all but limited “offroad” settings that are speed limited

collectively, the changes seen make the difference of a roadworthy production vehicle, capable of achieving marketable range numbers

The concept bumper allows body damage if you tap a brick wall at low speed while parking.

I'm interested in the Cybertruck *despite* its looks, so I prefer a bumper that offers practical protection for the vehicle.

If I cared about vehicular looks, I'd scratch the Cybertruck from my list and just be happy with my MYLR.

It's hard to compare the pictures you have provided as the angles are different as the pre-production version has a more favourable angle and seems to have a sleeker finish.

My only gripes are the ugly windshield wiper and side mirrors on the production version.

The larger bumper is probably required for safety and doesn't really distract IMO.

It's not about how much they extend horizontally but rather vertically, there's a significant compromise in approach and departure angles. Which is why Tesla might offer off road oriented bumpers given the existence of a Cybertruck accessories team, if they won't the aftermarket will likely take care of it.

I think it evolved a bit (had to) but stayed very true to the original. In the OP, the rear of the prototype from that angle always reminded me of a 1968 Chevelle(!) and I do not get that from the current builds. But looking at the two straight on photos in cvalue13's comment above, those two vehicles are just about identical. As Luke42 replied above, there's never been a zany prototype design that came to market anywhere as close to the original as the CT is going to.
