I keep refining my ROCC concept. Roll Over Cab Camper. I will place a rechargeable/removable battery from a cordless tool (co marketing) in the base and pair it will a remote control. The unlock from baseplate, crawl forward and backwards and elevation of the tent in the clamshell will now be done by electric motors/servos embedded in the lower portion of the clam shell. This actually simplified the mechanism. I also eliminated and or attached most of the loose parts for deployment. It is easily a one person job now. This will allow set up to the configuration shown in step 4 in just a couple minutes. Setting up the vestibule tent and attaching it to the ROCC would still be a chore but I am sure a tent specialist could make this better.

I think the ROCC concept is superior because the CD is almost unchanged and it opens up the bed for a kitchen and bench and stand up changing area with the vestibule structure. With some volume I think the base ROCC portion would go for <$10k and all options with the vestibule structure, AC, toilet, shower, kitchen would be <$20k.

I would love to see this built.

Tinker71 this is brilliant. Keep working on it. One suggestion - the pop top is like Sportsmobile: not tall enough to sit up in and with windows too small.
Make it like Colorado Camper Van. (I love mine) 40" tall with zippered full height screen/window/shade.
Also remember the width over front seats is only 54".

You can do all of that without the front support arms and just keep the rear of the structure over the midgate, with a support frame attached to the rear CT roof. I don't think it really helps to slide it that much forward, you can access it from the side as well.
Ideally I would tap and weld a small insert on the A pillars. The inserts could be tiny with only a 1/8" diameter hole to keep the legs from kicking out. The front legs sit in a recess in the lower clamshell and swing down to clip in the inserts. This is pretty easy and reduces the structural requirement by providing more support locations.

I see what you are saying about keeping it even with the midgate area however I like it forward because you can use the roof of the CT to help get up from bed area rather than a ladder inside or out. There would be a 18" storage box that you would step on from the bed, to the roof of the CT at 42" and then another 12" to the mattress level. This would also make a good place to sit with your bottom on the mattress and feet sitting on the roof of the CT. The ladder is not required except for the "quick nap" mode. I assume primary entry and exit would be from the vestibule side.

Pushing it all the way forward also adds more interior volume with the vestibule. This product would actually have more volume that the typical truck camper for short beds.

Since the slab/mattress is almost 11.5 feet long. It will accommodate 2 adults and 2 smaller kids under 48" or a 3rd larger person if you don't mind playing footsies.

The pop tent area would definitely be tall enough to sit up in. Probably 40" tall less a 3" mattress.

I wanted to keep this relatively shallow to minimize the fabric wall area and keep the lift mechanism travel shorter. Less forces in general. I consider the vestibule to be semi air conditioned since it is a tent, but the sleeping area would have a heat pump set up so you could heat and cool that space with a small unit. I like to be cool when I sleep. The fabric on the pop tent would have some insulation the vestibule fabric would be lighter.

Thanks for the encouragement.

$24k to sleep in the bed of your truck. Hard pass. If it was $2k...maybe I'd utilize that in a pinch. But I have a full "glamping" set up that can be compressed into small enough containers, set up and taken down fast enough, and I'm guessing is significantly more comfortable than that expensive murphy bed.

Not sure about anyone else but…. How are you selling a product for a product no one physically has but Elon’s closest!? I mean they haven’t started manufacturing them. Not trying to be a jerk but won’t the specs change once they start manufacturing?

There are enough CT CAD models around to make reasonable design choices from those dimensions.

Ahh ok, I just remember hearing Elon saying they were trying to make it smaller to fit in a garage. Which was one reason they are not manufacturing them along with giga press…

I only read the first page of comments but….. honestly……

not worth that amount of moneyand any amount over 5k.

could literally build the exact same thing from Joann Fabric, fiberglass from auto parts store, and stuff from Amazon for what… maybe $400?

We are moving into a DIY era again and paying THAT much for convenience??? No flippin way

I don't think the CT change in size was very substantial and that was a while ago now since that was being discussed.

The gigapress is still being used for the CT, primarily for the front and read castings. One of the 9kt ones is build and will be shipped soon.

Hey as a fellow Australian, have you heard anything about the CT orders for Australia customer's status
Hey mate!
No sadly haven't heard any official change in the CT order status, just a couple of unsubstantiated rumours as per usual being pedalled by media outlets.

It wouldn't make sense to me to cancel orders, but I do think theres a 2-3 year backlog for deliveries already, so I think they are just shutting down international orders to reduce and manage customer expectations.

Hi Thanks, I have only heard the same, they are not taking any more international orders, but they are honoring the ones they have, I wonder if we will be in the line according to the date when ordered, or will the USA orders all take priority. i ordered mine in march 2021

Definitely only after a considerable amount of US orders are delivered.

It could be up to 2 years after production start, and if you're 2021, I'd probably say 2025 atm? Thats still a fair way out for us here. I have a US order about 40minutes after release that I'm looking to get delivered in the USA, and another 4 here.

I'm still hoping for an Aussie giga factory announcement, but am not holding my breath the way the markets are going atm and heading for recession.
