I had the unfortunate event of losing my charger controller last week while charging at home. I arrived home at 28%, plugged into one of my two chargers in my garage (I also have a Model YP), and less than an hour later, I checked the app for no particular reason, only to see "Charging Stopped".
I went back home to do all the usual troubleshooting, rebooted the Tesla Wall Charger, rebooted my CT, etc. I have no LED at the charger port, and I'm unable to unplug my charging cable either. It's literally offline internally, and the console shows that the truck needs Service. I learned how to manually disengage the charger lock, which was much easier than it looked. I switched chargers, but still nothing. I scheduled my SC visit, and they have the truck in service as I write this. They said it will take a few days to diagnose the issues, and are providing a loaner CT in the meantime (since I'm under warranty).
The point of my post is to say that once you override the "charging state" message on the console while putting the truck into Drive, there is no visible Speedometer anywhere on the console. It's literally preempted by the message related to the charger controller issue. I could not figure out a way around this, no matter what I tried. I drove for a few minutes without knowing how fast I was going, so I used an app on my cellphone to get an idea of my velocity, which worked due to the GPS in the phone. I just happened to have the app installed since I wanted to know how fast the trains I used in Europe were going while traveling last winter.
I know this is an edge case for Tesla, but I think I will reach out to them to "suggest" they provide vehicle speed at least somewhere on the screen while also showing ECU error-related messages. My truck was totally drivable otherwise, even though this was a one-way trip until it was repaired.
