Tailgate Shield - does it provide proper coverage to protect the tailgate with two or more bikes?

About the tailgate shield, I wanted to see if anyone used it before and what they thought about it for use with a road and mountain bike.

It appears from the picture to be a little short of the full width of the tailgate.

Didn't see where you strap bikes down, so would they be moving on turns, or could they slide over to hit the unprotected area of the tailgate?

Any thoughts or experiences welcomed.
