Ok,
Semi's have to pay an OTR fuel tax for every state they operate.
Diesel fuel is the price that it is because of fuel taxes that are supposedly used for roads.
Supposedly.
Does anyone know how this works out for all electric semi trucks?

Diesel fuel taxes don't cover their impact to roads. It's only a small portion of funding now.

Yeah, fuel tax is for roads, sure. And the lotto money only goes to the schools, I swear.

Fuel tax doesn't pay for the roads per se, but the lost revenue will cause a shortfall as EVs propagate.

It's still a solution looking for a problem, at this point.

High fees on EVs reduce adoption - not just reduce disuse. The fee on my EV motorcycle makes it more costly in state fees (including the gas tax) than an ICE vehicle.

WA, a state that says it is pushing for EVs, has instituted $225 in annual fees to renew tabs. Below is what it will cost to renew my tabs for my Model S.

I think more states will follow suit in some way or another, they will have to offset the loss of gas tax funding as EVs become more prevalent.

When I had non-plug in hyrbrids I particularly found the $75 transportation electrification fee, levied on ALL hybrids, not just those with a plug, obnoxious - the fee was supposed to be used for charging infrastructure which of course was not at all relevant to my cars.

Fees and Donations
Electric Vehicle Registration Renewal$150.00
Transportation Electrification$75.00
Registration License$30.00
Additional Vehicle Weight Fee$10.00
Vehicle Weight$45.00
Registration Filing$4.50
Registration Service Fee
Funds ferry replacement (County Auditor/DOL) or is retained by the office (subagent).
$8.00
License Plate Technology$0.25
Department of Licensing Service$0.50
Washington State Parks
