In 2017, PepsiCo placed an order for 100 Tesla Semis. The move was part of the giant's efforts to reduce fuel costs and emissions from its fleet. In 2019, PepsiCo announced that 15 Tesla Semis will be used at its Frito-Lay manufacturing site in Modesto. All electric trucks scheduled for this location have now been delivered, according to PepsiCo Vice President Mike O'Connell. The event was attended by six Semis, some of which are painted in Frito-Lay yellow-orange colors.

“We're just getting started. This project in Modesto doesn’t exist in a vacuum,” said Steven Williams, CEO of PepsiCo Foods North America, which is Frito-Lay’s parent company. “It’s part of a much larger ambition for PepsiCo to use fewer precious resources and help build a stronger sustainable future for everyone.”​

Yes, I'm sure that they too, will break down.

According to Wikipedia, "Internal Combustion Engines date back to between the 10th and 13th century", so you think we would have got ICE dialed in, yet I see an ICE Semi broken down frequently. Heck, I had to rebuild my ICE daily driver twice in 120,000 miles.

They are all machines that are not perfect.

When I'm behind a diesel vehicle in traffic with my HVAC system NOT on recirculate mode, my inevitable choking provides a reminder that something has to change with these heavy movers' propulsion system.

I rarely consume soda or potato chips, but I applaud Pepsi and Frito-Lay for being at the vanguard of this transition.

C'mon, chips? That isn't necessarily the heaviest load, if you're trynna impress me. I would maybe do a grand opening at the local lead or steel plant, showing the Semi whipping by pulling infinite mass, yeah? But not chips, it just seems a little vanilla.
