For the Tesla owners out there that have been on a Tesla waiting list before, did you get a chance to sit in, drive, touch, feel, smell, drive, etc, your model of choice before finalizing your purchase?

I know a lot of people on the waiting list will take delivery with no questions asked. I still want to see the CT and get a feel for it's somewhat barren interior before handing over $.

What happened after you finalized your order? Did you get a certain amount a time to perform an inspection and point out any issues, or did they just deliver it to the nearest dealer where you picked it up and you had to run any issues through the warranty department?

Depends on how you arrange it. You can get test drives, there's an email list to get on. https://www.tesla.com/events

Or you can contact your nearest showroom.

When you arrange delivery, you can do touchless, or you can tell them you need more help. What help is available is based upon local laws and availability, of course. It can be as little as an electronic clip-board and you check for scuffs yourself with the car registered to your phone already and no sales anywhere near you... or a walk-through by a sales specialist who'll help you know how to drive it before you leave.

And then there's local meetups and owners groups: That's one of the best ways to get things explained. Lots of interested people, with lots of experience. That's how I got access to a Zero, for instance.

According to that unofficial excel tracker I think I'm #2 in Colorado Springs with CT awaiting. I'm not sure it will be possible to get a hold of #1 to check the truck out before finalizing my order. We do have a Tesla showroom in Colorado Springs, but I wasn't sure how that worked regarding deliveries. Will each showroom get a truck to show before our orders are finalized?

I called the local showroom. Rep said he didn't know what the process would be; whether the showrooms would get one before the preorders or not.

He did say they had a ton of pre-orders but that he thinks Tesla is still more then a year out from production.

My guess, and It is not really a guess.

If we don't get an opportunity to view the product before we pay for it, we can get a full refund if we don't like it when we see it.

I can't imagine a scenario where we pay for the product without an opportunity to see it in the flesh first, and then Tesla refuses to refund if we don't like it once we see it in rel life.

I can't bet my life on it if they don't, but Tesla would be betting their business on it if they don't.

I said get on the email list.

During the Cybertruck roll-out, the easiest way to get a test drive will be owner events. Stores won't get them unless people refuse deliveries (and they will, but that's hard to predict availability.)

I signed up for the event notifications.

As an early reservation holder I'm going to have to be one of the owners at the owner events.

They should officially support a driving simulator like Assetto Corsa etc, for all Tesla models, and use the game to feed info into the FSD AI. You could even get it to recreate disengagement scenarios for machine learning. All while the customer gets a sneak peak at a Tesla from the comfort of home.

We had an awesome experience with the Tesla delivery/service center in Richmond, VA. I scheduled a test drive of a Model Y for my wife and when we arrived, my brother and his family met us and joined in the fun. They gave us a Model Y for 30 minutes and, since it was at the end of the day, I asked if we could have my brother drive it as well (he had never driven an EV before) and they let us keep it for an entire hour. The staff was super friendly and knowledgeable and it was a great experience overall. We ordered our MY after my wife's test drive.

I have no doubt a couple years from now this same experience will be possible for the CT. I'm just wondering if the earl reservation holders will get any chance for a similar experience before having to decide to buy or not.

Unless they have extra units to spread across the galleries/stores, I doubt it will happen. They will probably do roadshows where you can reserve ahead of time when they are in town.

Not until after my reservation is fulfilled. (/selfish mode)

Highly doubt it. Your test drive will be the brief period they give you to decide to keep or return it for refund.
