It happens...this sort of headlines has been targeting Tesla forever.
Yes it has. When I tell some of my family members that I am getting a Cybertruck, they respond, "Hope it doesn't catch on fire..."

*sigh*

Even if you point to them that it's much more likely to happen on an ICE vehicle, they'll either ignore it or say, "But those fires can be put out"...I just stopped trying. "You aren't worried you'll burn your house down"...I just change the subject.

That's exactly what I do...change the subject. Like you said, no matter how you respond, they don't believe you.

One way to end that debate.

I've looked at the risks, which I've seen are super rare, and I'm willing to take that risk. It's just like taking a car for a drive, there are risks. But most of us accept that.

Or better yet. Take the Forrest Gump approach. Shit Happens! :p

I bet anyone arguing against EV still carry a mobile phone with them despite ton of videos of them catching on fire. I wouldn’t be a surprised if it is a political stance more than a tech or safety issue with most. That said, I would definitely won’t say no to safety improvement in charging and battery tech.

Spot on.

I don’t love Rivian, but let’s not jump to conclusions. We don’t have a ton of evidence here.

I will assert, uncategorically, that everything in existence, that is powered by electricity, has at one time or another, caught fire!*

*wow that's a lot of commas in one sentence 😳

I don't think it's a rivian problem. My guess is electrify America.

Wouldn't be the first rivian issue though if it was rivian

Most of the Tesla ones I remember had some sort of damage to the car or something before hand. Curious to find out what went wrong. My money is on electrify America issues

Unfortunately EA is a bit of a dumpster fire and you might be right.

That Rivian is stuck using EA is a bit of a downside. Hopefully they hit a deal with Tesla for access to the Supercharger network.

But… bigger point here is we don’t really know what happened. Might well be a cigarette or insurance fraud. Just don’t care for jumping to conclusions.

The fact that they are so rare is why it makes headlines
