The thing is that you don't park a plane in a parking of a mall or in the city center :)

I predict that more than 50% of owners will keep the Tesla Wrapping Service busy over the next few years. I for one will be one of them. So 2B or 4B is inconsequential.
Also inconsequential for me because I will not wrap no matter what the finish is.

^^^This.

I like that there wont be anything a little Naval Jelly and a SOS pad cant take care of.

Don’t use an SOS pad on your Cybertruck or you will be sorry. The steel used In those pads will embed in your Cybertruck and then rust. There are several posts here that mention it. Look them up. See posts by DeLorean owner DMC-81. ScotchBright makes an industrial pad for that application.

Podcaster Ryan McCaffery on “Ride the Lightning” had a show after the CT debut and said exactly the same thing. It is a good show to listen to on all things Tesla.

According to Delorean owners. Just use a heavy duty brillow pad and the scratches disappear. But it'll probably be a fingerprint magnet. Maybe they'll make it fingerprint resistant .?‍♂

It would be nice if the buyers could choose their own finish per order. It would still be SS, but give it a little personalization. How hard could that need in manufacturing????
cost a little more than a rap

Not only is stainless a fingerprint magnet, but the DeLorean is a finger magnet, and I expect the CyberTruck to have the same effect on passers-by. Should make for some interesting Sentry Mode videos lol

I will be happy with the truck as it is from the factory. Blemishes, scratches and all. If someone at the local Wallyworld wants to try and scar my truck, I will have them on camera and make an example of them with the local police. This, regardless of their effect and any money I may get out of it. Any scars that actually occur will stay as badges of courage/honor. I have no doubt that I will do my best to show that my Cybertruck will have labored over its lifetime. As in all things skid sideways, late to my own funeral gasping that it was one hell of a ride... Truck included.

Really well done examples of the stainless finish. I actually think that I like the muted 2B finish better than I would like a #4 finish but in general paint hides scratches probably better than the bare metal would. I am little concerned about the random jealous or curious passerby too.

3M makes some pretty amazing anti graffiti and ballistics films. I have worked on construction projects where we installed it. I think its relatively cheap and when estimating it for construction projects it lands around $16/sf. I may install that stuff day one to allow me to just peel it off if there is an accident. I have heard that there is a self healing clear wrap material out there now as well. I will have to do some research to figure out which one is better.

One thing is for sure, getting scratches out of the CT and maintaining the finish will not be easy. The 2B will be the hardest to maintain for sure because if you get a scratch it will be really tough to get that 2B finish back after you sand and buff out the scratch. If it were a polished finish you could sand out the scratch and then repolish to the same level as the rest of the panels. There will probably be vendors that end up specializing in this like those paintless dent removal guys or those guys that polish airstream trailers. One very nice thing is that you probably won't ever have to deal with dents!

If you live in the spring break areas, you may get different, unique body part imprints besides fingerprints.

The videos may be more or less appealing to watch.

It would require someone to buff all the welds and exposed surfaces, which would be pretty labor-intensive.

It sounds like they're going to use some of that drill-putty-welding craziness, too. https://matmatch.com/blog/friction-stir-welding-spacex/

And some of the finishes are best started with the raw plates.

So I know this is a really old post, but its worth a shot. When I saw the CT prototype in person at the Petersen last year, one of the things that was a little less quality than I was expecting to see is quite a lot of but joints. I think it was mostly around the sail pillar. But that could very likely be because the sail pillar panel will lift up and have storage.

If you have a problem with fingerprints, attach industrial strength, clear glue sheets to panels.
