Toyota BZ4X BEV with steer-by-wire by mid 2022, maybe Tesla add steer-by-wire to Cybertruck?

Remember until you get the regulations changed, you have the manual system plus all the redundant fly by wire system components.

Waymo, Cruise & other robo-taxis already block access to the driver seat.
Even if a qualified driver was a passenger they could not take over control in an emergency (steering failure).

Ford, Lyft and Argo team up to deploy robotaxis
Ford Motor Co. and its partner Argo AI will start a self-driving ride-hailing service with Lyft Inc. in Miami,FL and Austin,TX, later this year. It will be the biggest commercial rollout of robot rides.

In a robo-taxi there is no human driver to take over in an emergency so a regulation requiring a steering wheel and manual system is idiotic. The regulation will change.

Steer-by-wire will be standard with no manual direct mechanical links.

This is not true. They have seats for safety drivers just like other cars.

This is true, and irrelevant, since automated cars are not required to have manual linkages. They're also still case by case basis for approval, but no physical linkage is required.

(Tho this is more about standing occupancy like busses)

What does Waymo and robo-taxis have to do with the consumer Cybertruck? Regulations are why it will be shipping with outside mirrors.

Steer-by-wire or SbW as I found out this morning, is not something that nobody has thought about. A quick web search and NHTSA published a study back in 2018, https://www.nhtsa.gov/sites/nhtsa.gov/files/documents/13502_812576_steerbywire.pdf, SAE International published a Study on the Controllability of the Vehicle Steer-by-Wire Systems in 2020 https://www.sae.org/publications/technical-papers/content/2020-01-0646/ and that's just two of many (searched for steer-by-wire regulations). Doing a search on the NHTSA website, https://www.nhtsa.gov/search?keywords=sbw+steer+by+wire, gave me 1091 results so to my surprise it isn't a new subject.

Infiniti launched it in a Q50 around 2014 (going from memory here), but got so much fearful feedback that they dropped it. I welcome it, and hope my next car (a CT) drives like a video game.

No frunk.

Love my frunk. Hard to consider a car (or truck!) without one again. Doesn’t need to be huge, just big enough to stash helmet, shoes, gloves, and a hydration pack.

I've never once used it. Cute, but useless to me so far. I wouldn't stick my moto gear in there, I'd be fearful of the heat (it gets quite hot, no climate control) and in general I've never managed to fill the car otherwise in more convenient spaces.

2014-2016 Q50 was 1st generation that had problems. They released a 2nd/3rd generation om 2017 that still in use today's models ( 2022) that get good reviews.

some Tesla owners have used insulation on underside of frunk lid that lowered temps by over 20F. Supposed to make frunk usable in hot & sunny climate locations. You can find examples on youtube.

A worthless exercise if you don't already use up all the space. Also 20 degrees is not a fix.

Now THAT is a great use for it. I've never camped at a place that a car can go, things are different everywhere.
