It is under the vault. Slides down the rear window and behind the back seats. There is a patent floating around. Also people who were inside when it opened.
This is not the case as far as I can see. With the vault open, you can see the seats in the back. When the vault is closing, you can still see the seats and there is no motion in that area. It must be rolled up somewhere up above the back seat, but I can't see where.

It's fast and closed with a satisfying thunk. I hope the tonneau cover stays as standard equipment. My hunch is that to help make it affordable it will be an option.
Every month you'll need to hold the button down for 30 seconds while closing to re-calibrate.....

Rivian's tonneau cover was designed too clever by half. Unnecessarily having each section disconnect from the one beside it to stack into an efficiently small rectangle, instead of rolling up or stowing somewhere intact.

I'm just hoping that when it disappears under the bed it won't interfere with a gooseball hitch directly over the rear suspension. I think that if it stops just below the rear window it will stop short of the 'axle'. 🤞

The tonneau cover will probably be standard because having the bed closed by tonneau cover is critical to obtaining the stated range numbers. No tonneau cover or open tonneau cover significantly increases aerodynamic drag and reduces range.

If it doesn't come as standard, there's gonna be a ton of push back! Especially from the Hunch 'Back of Notre Dame'.

If you are reasonably bright, you will not roll it up when it’s covered with large amounts of mud, snow, or leaves.

But Tesla makes vehicles for all sorts of people so they likely have a leaf solution.
Comes with an leaf/snow-blower attachment for the air-compressor or BYO!

couldn't tell, but where is the seal on the covers edge to keep it water tight?....something doesn't look right

Numerous options are expensive. Tesla would be silly to produce two trucks, one with and one without tonneau. Color, seats, and wheels are bad enough. They're more likely to limit options to things that can be added OTA after delivery like FSD, streaming, and seat heaters that a LOT of people just do not want.
