I'm ordering several CTs but I'm not sure I'll have the financing worked out by then. Will they let me delay a few months or do I have to start over in line?

That’s actually a very good question you might lose your place in line if you don’t pick it up when they call you.
I also think it would depend on if you ordered them all at the same time or if they’re staggered.

I don't think they would put you in the back of the line, probably something like:
the trucks will be available when you can pay us. with a slight potential delay
But this is a complete guess. just how I would do it.

I would guess, given the demand, they’ll give you a window of time 24-48hrs to submit payment or accept their financing options or lose your place.
Best bet might be to find someone behind you in line and swap places, so if the times comes, you buy it for yourself or for the swap counterpart with their money. Then the reverse when their number comes up. Should we have a place in our profile or a thread to list our place in line, options and whether or not we are willing to trade up or down the queue?

If it was like the process for the Model Y, they'll just send a text telling you to complete your order. When you log into your Tesla account, you'll see the steps required (payment, insurance, etc.). You have to identify how you'll pay for it (example, $35,000 check plus $20,000 loan from Tesla). It told us we needed to submit proof of insurance so, we sent proof that we currently HAD insurance though that's not what they really wanted. At the Service Center, I offered proof of insurance on the Model Y which you can't get until you get a VIN anyway but the guy said they only needed it if we were getting a Tesla loan (we weren't). It seemed that this would be the time to tell them you needed some more time though with the Model Y, we heard they were making them in color batches by region so we knew if we delayed we'd have to wait til they started producing more of the blue ones... not an issue so much with the CT.

Anyway, with us, the process was a little scattered and we were never sure if they were waiting on us to finish something or if they had everything they needed. Eventually, using a "VIN Checker" add-in, we saw that a VIN was assigned to us. It was shortly after that when we first started getting contacted. I'm the Tech nerd in the family but somehow, my wife just happened to log into the Tesla account and was the first to see we had a VIN. It was kind of good since it was her car. She had been kind of on the fence til that moment and then she got really excited to be getting her car.

Sorry this was so long. Hope it shed a little light.

How are Tesla interest rates vs the market rates?

That is so useful. Thanks. My dream is to own a small fleet of CTs. I can only finance so many at a time. Pre Ordering 12 is easy. Taking possession will be the real trick. Any ideas on creative financing? Would Tesla let me finance that many if they thought the resale value was higher than the purchase price and that depreciation was non existent for the first year?

I have no idea... We didn't get a loan for the MY though we will for the CT most likely.

When I bought my Model 3 in 2018 (1.5 year reservation holder) Tesla notified me that I could complete the order process and that my car would be ready in 2 weeks. I told them I needed a little more time and called back the lady who I was in contact with a month later. She put me right back in line where I left off (2 weeks for the car to be ready).

I am assuming this is exactly how the Cybertruck ordering process will take place. I can't imagine Tesla sending customers to the back of the line because they need a little more time.

Tesla does not provide financing directly, but partner up with a bank like US Bank to provide financing. So the terms would be up to the bank.

If the ordering process is like the Model 3 was like at first, once your number is called you have priority over newer orders (for the most part). With Model 3 there were differences in that Tesla prioritized certain regions of the USA for orders and made different colors in batches.

Well, I think we don’t have to worry about color batches with the truck. A different type of batching, however, could take place.
Regions with the highest number of orders, and regions with the easiest carrier access(closest to Austin) might get a slight priority.

This was also my MY order experience. Putting down the $100 worked exactly like putting down the $100 on the CT.

Of course with the MY there were some “next steps” that aren’t available on the CT.

Here’s what I think will happen once CT production begins. All reservation holders will get a message that says “prepare for delivery”, yes even if your 1,000,000th in line. On your account there will be some new tasks to complete. And then you’ll enter “Waiting Phase II”.

If you’re not ready when you get the prepare for delivery message just let it sit there. You won’t lose your place in line.
