My wife loves the idea of taking the CT for roadtrips. lone range, easy camping, plug an electric cooler into the outlet, and she loves to grab my arm while i drive so a middle front seat makes that way more comfortable for us.

I think maybe they drive a Prius and LIKE it.
We owned a Prius for 12 years and liked it.

There's a lot to love about that car.

Actually driving it isn't one of those things -- it's an owner's car, not a driver's car. It was one of those good-life-decision cars which allowed us to survive our late 20s (financially speaking), while still getting $#!t done. It started every morning, didn't cost much to run, and carried a lot more kids and cargo than anyone who hasn't owned one would believe.

It's a lousy sports car (the go-pedal makes it sound like you stomped on a kitten) -- but it is one of the best household-support-vehicles I've ever had the privilege of owning. There are very few vehicles which can compete with it, even now.

I'm into EVs, because I like vehicles which can make the Prius obsolete even better than I like the Prius. That vehicle is the Model Y (for my wife) and the Cybertruck (for me). Alas, my wife has rebuffed my attempts to buy her a Model Y, because her existing car is "just fine" (she's right), and "you're the one who cares about cars" (she's also right about that). Cybertruck it is, then (and she's OK with this).

And that was twenty years ago. Today you have a range of choices from pretty petty to lotsa room to bery basic. The Prime can keep up with my Mazda 3 if empty, which is pretty cool.

Nowhere near the efficiency of an EV, but if range and initial price is a worry, well, there's a car for that. There's no reason for straight-up ICE vehicles to exist in the light passenger vehicle segment anymore.

Wife HATES the look of CT. But, she knows I've been saving up for the last few years for a Tesla and knows how bad I want it. Told her I'd pay for it and she warmed up to the idea much more. I think once CT's are on roads and are more common (and she sees the use/functionality of it) she'll be sold, as I believe most people will. I can't wait!

Although I have a small model and a couple posters of the cybertruck, my wife just saw a picture of one with the stainless steel. Her first reaction was a lot like mine... YIKES!!!. She said that if we can afford it when my number comes up, then I can get it... YAY!?!

My wife conducted a poll with her friends because she liked it but was embarrassed to say she did. I instantly liked and have no problem putting myself out there. Her approach is either shyness or political genius.

What was the result of the poll! Don't leave us hanging, man.

I currently have the CT preordered because the specs are too good to pass up. Price, range, stainless steel body, large interior to travel w/ family, camping, autopilot, and Supercharger network all considered obvious pros. However, I am waiting to see a hopefully less hideous design (if this triggers you please go bark up another tree) before I'd actually commit to buying. And yes, I understand the functionality of the straight line bends of the stainless to reduce cost, as well as the cybertruck aesthetic. When I say "redesign" I am well aware this thing won't ever look like a traditional truck, but here's the deal......There is no way my wife would ever let us get one w/ the current look. Doesn't matter how good the specs are, this will be sitting in our driveway and neither of us would want such a hideous design being promenaded in front of our neighbors. And yes, I get that no matter what having an unpainted stainless steel body will always get attention.

I am looking forward to the CT update coming next quarter. 3% smaller size, flatter side angle, mirrors?, windshield wiper?. I would like to see what the actual rims look like (not with the hubcaps). I really hope there is an extra bend in the tailgate (or a complete redesign), man that tailgate looks bad. I do think some minor changes could make it much palatable.

Is there anyone else who feels the same way or am I not as a loyal fanboy as the rest of the group?
If I read another post "fishing" for abuse over whether or not he wears the pants in his household I am going to punch myself in the nose.

Frankly, my wife doesn’t like it. I don’t care.

For years whenever I questioned her purchases — really, how many different dish drainers do we need to buy and discard because all of a sudden you not don’t like it? — she would reply, “It’s my money.”

She started to complain about the looks and I replied, “Well, I love it and it’s my money.” Haven’t heard her talk about it again. Best $100 I’ve spent.

I agree and disagree.

Like with me and my wife, we both have jobs, we both have seperate savings accounts, and we share a joint account. I make more than her, by quite a lot, so I also put a lot more money in our joint account for the mortgage, bills, groceries, vacations, and college funds for the 4 kids we plan to have.

I am lucky and pretty much never buy myself anything. My clothes comes from costco, most of my tools i've been collecting since I was 14, I build most things that I actually want. So I can almost fully buy the CT without even considering the joint account, if tesla stock goes up, i can easily buy it just from my savings account. Now I wouldn't just buy it without a proper discussion with my wife which we've already have and luckily she loves it, because it would be a very small chance that she could convince me not to buy it.

The part of me that disagrees comes from the family I want. 4 kids and us will be 6, that will be perfect for the Cybertruck as a family vehicle. We're definitely going to be getting a second family vehicle since the Cybertruck will be my family vehicle and if she has the kids, she needs to fit all of them and maybe a couple of their friends.
The good thing about having a longer discussion about it is since it'll be one of our family vehicles, I get to use the joint account for a large portion of the purchase. It will save my personal account a lot of money in case I want a toy like the Cyberquad to go with the truck.
