Trying to figure out what % to tint front windshield. Anyone do this yet? Any insight / opinions would be appreciated.

I used 70% Xpel XR Plus on the front windshield, mainly for the heat reduction but it does provide a small amount of darkness.

35% on the front and passenger, 70% on the rear doors and windshield.

Haven't done it yet so not much help, but I'm going with 45% XPEL XR Plus on the windshield and 5% on the sides. Will check all the boxes for privacy, heat reduction, and blacked-out look.

…and expensive fix a ticket for windshield!
True! I see many tinted windshields in my area. Hope for the best 🤞

EDIT: This reply reminded me to set up an appointment with a dermatologist to get a medical exemption for the tints. $6.25 fee to the state of Florida per vehicle to file the exemption.

I have 20% Crystalline on all of my Model 3 glass and I am planning the same or the XR equivalent for the truck. I’ve read that this is a great match to the rear passenger glass, especially with darkening the windshield.

I did 75% crystalline, and it's pretty much perfect if you ask me. Cuts down the heat a ton, but also obscures vis through the front just enough. The angle and flatness of the windshield helps out a lot on this; you don't need much tint before the outsiders see more glare/reflection than passengers. Zero issues with nighttime driving. For daytime, I do notice I reach for my shades less frequently. All around great upgrade.

This has been my exact plan. In NC, it’s illegal to go more than 70 and 35 anyway.

I went with 50 on the windshield, 20 on the fronts and some tiny add-on to the rears to make them match better. Just got Cabin Overheat Protection yesterday, the 50 on the windshield is being put on right now. Will report back when I park at work on Monday.

My exact plan, but I am planning to add also 70% to the roof.
Any reason why you skipped it?

I understand that there is a risk of the roof cracking if you install something darker then 70% and there is an existing manufacturing defect in the glass…

I have a video coming out this weekend!
I did 70 windshield and roof
15 front
5 rear
but I found the factory tint esp the windshield is really good with my testing
and the roof has a metallic tint which offers even more heat and IR rejection

I went with xpel xr prime their top of the line ceramic and it made a difference

I did 50% xpel. It’s perfect. Not dark enough to get a ticket and Helps a lot with the sun and UV without changing the visibility at night

I am going with Xpel prime xr plus and have some samples of 70, 55 and 35.

I bought heat lamp in homedepot to test the heat rejection of the roof and rear windows, comparing it to Xpel samples.

Measuring by hand - There is no difference in heat rejection between driver window, back window and roof - all feel the same.
Same rest with any of xpel samples, I have: you almost do not feel the heat with any of them.

Being in Georgia, I am going to tint the roof with 70…
