Hey everyone,
I am planning on buying a Cybertruck soon. I am located in the bay area but I commute to university in Berkeley (you can prob guess which one), I was hoping to buy a cybertruck but the news about vandalizing Cybertrucks have been worrying me lately. Especially in Berkeley where its very left wing and probably hates Elon way more now and the cybertruck. Is this a cause of concern? I really wanted to buy it!

Is Berkeley really that lawless that you fear for your personal property?

Well, you sort of owned in on the only real downside of this vehicle.

Weā€™re there a handful of ultra exaggerated, recall and technical issue things spiraling out of control on the Internet? Sure. Mostly click bait with a hint of bots.

If I had any complaint about the vehicle at all, itā€™s that is sort of short circuits some peopleā€˜s brains, which intern could make them do weird stuff.

Iā€™m guessing that will go away as they become more common? When people start to see multiple of these per day, either theyā€™re going to have to be in physical pain just leaving their home to go to the grocery store, or theyā€™re going to have to just let it blend into the background like everything else.

I live near Seattle and Iā€™ve experience a number of ā€œhate crimeā€ incidents, including a key swipe on passenger side door. In Berkeley I can only imagine things could be at least as negative. But itā€™s the best vehicle Iā€™ve ever driven! So be careful where you park, and drive respectfully. One very good thing I did was get STEK PPF on it. STEK has the thickest for the best warranty, and theyā€™ve been around a long time so they are probably going to be around to honor the warranty. As I drive, I just put Jesus love in my heart and drive respectfully with a smileā€¦ and everyone who doesnā€™t like it can ā€œgo fā€¦ themselvesā€.

Keep a couple extra USB sticks in the truck so if something does happen you can turn over the footage to the police and replace it with one of the extras. The worry about our Cybertruck getting vandalized is something we worried about as well. It is a sad realization that it could happen to some of us in our ownership. I will say that the truck is worth the worry, absolutely love it. I am able to do all the "truck things" I need to do with it. Sucks you have to consider things like this when you want to purchase something that can give you joy.

IMO, depends on the security around your home and at UC Berkeley (my guess). Personally, I'm VERY hesitant bringing any of my Teslas to the Bay Area. I'll usually bring my beater (Ford Fusion) instead.

Wow. This is such a good timing.

I recently purchased a CT and had a couple of experiences in around UCB just yesterday.

Here are my 3 experiences in 1 day:

1. I pulled up a block from ASUC. A female student walked by talking on the phone said that a Cybertruck just ruined her day loudly obviously wanting me to hear it.
2. Went into the parking lot of Berkeley bowl and a person walked by and said ā€œnice car, a$$holeā€ with his middle finger up.
3. While driving by a CT ride by across on incoming traffic and a cyclist next to the CT gave him the birdie.

I was actually shocked by these encounters and thought why would these individuals comment on a subjective matter. I wouldnā€™t walk up to them and say, youā€™re ugly, f you.

So, yes, this is indeed real.

Yep. It sucks. Bay Area CT hate is intense, especially around Berkeley. Usually middle fingers and smart ass comments but nothing physical at least. Would I feel comfortable parking it near campus on a regular basis? Hard to say.

Going to reject the premise of your question before I give a full anwer by first saying that "hate crime" is a term used by manipulative people that doesn't have an objective basis for fact finding.

Having said that, UCB a nearly lawless area these days, where ultra communist thinking has taken a major foothold. This isn't conjecture on my part, they have official clubs and campus recognition.

One of the basic tenets of communism is that owning private property isn't really a thing. So if you think the question is worth asking on the forum, then I sincerely believe you already know the answer:

Your truck will likely be a target for vandalism.

solution: move elsewhere

I think the Cybertruck is the perfect vessel for experimenting with my new, "CyberZapper". It's basically an electric "taser" that electrifies the entire exoskeleton upon a "tampering detected" condition to stun the opponent. I'm also working on "tear gas" grenades that deploy from the vehicle at the touch of a button. Wheel "tredges" are in the works as well.
The cyber world can't wait until my product line launches (insert villainous laugh here).

My wife and I came out of the grocery store to find a banana peel tossed on the vault cover of our CT. No harm, but obviously someone was jealous. :D
