I think you, and many others, inflate his abilities. As for Elon "faking it", he has been caught blatantly lying about his gaming abilities. Anyone willing to lie about something so minuscule in the grand scheme of things has to be questioned on their integrity.

The word “counterintuitive” exists for a reason. Owning a business does not make you a risk manager or a lawyer.

I’ll give you a quick story and then I’m going to stop talking about this because I’m just not here to convince anyone of anything that they don’t want to believe.

A few years ago one of my clients, a name you know, went and purchased one of their competitors who was much larger a name you knew. We’ll call them R and A. respectively.

When merging the teams they had exactly 2 heads of risk management. The risk manager at the R was very aggressive in litigation and his strategy was to fight everything rarely settle do mock juries and all kinds of expensive procedures to “send a message” that R would not settle with you and pound you into the ground.

The risk manager at A quickly settled as many cases as she could.

The risk manager at R, Dave was a guy that I got to know well over the years enjoyed hanging out with and since his company then the purchaser he thought, for sure, he would be the obvious director of risk in the new combined team. After all, the combined new entity was called R still.

Dave was gone with an eight months of the acquisition. The lady he thought he was going to beat still my client. Why?

Her costs were orders of magnitude less. At the time of the acquisition, R had a market cap of $3 billion. A I had a market cap of twice that and something like 2-3 times the number of employees. The combined company had 35,000 employees.

So, she had lower costs, with substantially more exposure. Dave isn’t the only one who go bye-bye. One of the attorneys in my firm simply could not wrap his head around Dave not being in charge and he would repeatedly forget who the client was and insist on his typical scorched earth litigation strategy. The day we found out who won the internal battle of the risk manager’s was the same day he was sent packing

This is known. You don’t need to take my word for it next time you’re talking to your agent/broker or any lawyer that you know that does general liability defense work ask them.

I’ll say this one last time. The case was 100% settled for financial reasons and almost certainly it is because the decedent estate realized that they may not recover more than the tender (initial offer of settlement) that was made by Tesla or some other decision on their end.

People are going to sue if they want to sue. Good lawyers are not afraid of their opponents. We want the fight!!! So, this whole idea that you only settle if your case is weak thing … I’m sorry to bust your bubble but it’s just nonsense! Likewise, the conventional wisdom that if we are relentless and never settle fewer people will sue us is demonstrably false, for the reasons I’ve stated above.

this work is done by the lawyers on a contingency basis so even if the litigants are poor, they don’t need to worry about the cost of litigation upfront. That’s a risk the lawyers take! Bean counters decide whether we get to fight or not. And smart bean counters avoid it because it’s just more financially sound as a strategy as demonstrated by my story above.

SpaceX didn't invent space travel and they wouldn't exist except for the NASA (tax payers) paving the way. The one fairly impressive thing they have done is reusable booster rockets. And, it appears, so has Blue Origin.

I've noticed Elon's haters are always, without exception, someone whose life accomplishments and contributions to humanity are almost nothing compared to what Elon has already accomplished. This makes them feel small and insignificant so they try to tear him down to their own size. They take innocent gestures like Elon throwing his heart out to the crowd and try to turn them into Elon being a secret Nazi (or some other terrible monster of a person).

But it just ends up making them look petty and ridiculous. ?
