We received our latest test results for a pre-treatment solution to be applied to the Cybertruck stainless steel prior to installing our magnetic panels to help prevent corrosion and pitting with prolonged use without removal for cleaning. Here is what the tests revealed...

The first test was conducted on a frunk lid of a Cybertruck. Half of the lid was left with bare steel exposed, and the other half was coated with a single application of ProtectaClear. A magnetic panel was installed over the frunk lid. After several weeks, the magnetic cover was removed, and there was no visible damage to either half of the lid.

This test was repeated after placing the magnetic cover back on the frunk lid. A highly concentrated bucket of salt water solution was poured over the frunk lid and left to sit for several more weeks and exposed to outdoor weather. After the magnetic cover was removed, a heavy amount of corrosion and pitting was revealed on the unprotected side of the lid. The single coated side showed a moderate amount of damage, but obviously fared better than the unprotected side. These test results revealed two facts; 1) The Cybertruck steel can indeed be damaged after long-term exposure to excessive amounts of salt with a covering in place and, 2) A protective coating can reduce that potential damage.

The damage to the frunk lid was buffed out so we could start the next test with a clean canvas.

In the third test, the frunk lid was coated with a double coat of ProtectaClear on one half, and a double coat of Everbrite on the second half. The magnetic cover was put back in place. The same highly concentrated bucket of salt water solution was again poured all over the frunk lid and left to sit for several more weeks while exposed to outdoor weather. After the magnetic cover was removed, both halves of the Cybertruck frunk lid remained pristine and intact.

The pre-treatment solution is a double coat of ProtectaClear if you want to leave our magnetic covers on for prolonged periods. We advise that you purchase a quart of ProtectaClear when you order our Magnetic Covers kit. While Everbrite worked equally well, it is a thicker substance and may reduce the magnetic bond. Links for ProtectaClear have been added to our website and product pages. We are working on adding the ProtectaClear kit to our Magnetic Covers kit, but in the meantime, the products must be purchased seperately.

Nice, looks like a test sheet of stainless. An interesting experiment at this point would be taking 1/4 of the panel (half of each test section) and trying the standard barkeepers friend polish to see what it could be brought back to.

Nice testing, I am planning on using your product over a specific ceramic coating to hopefully achieve the same or similar protection result, protectaclear is a solid product but the installation is challenging for most.

Incredible!!! Congrats!! What will be your recommendation for removing and cleaning/reappying? Every 6 months?

How well did that corrosion clean up? What did you use?

I've asked Jackie at ProtectaClear about what she used for buffing out the damage. Some of it was too severe to be completely removed, but in a real world situation, it's unlikely that any Cybertruck body would encounter such a salty solution and sit under a vinyl cover in the California heat for weeks, which is actually worse for corrosion than cold temperatures.
