I have been a long time lurker of these forums and as of yesterday became a Cybertruck owner. Wanted to drop a note to say hi to everyone.

I am in San Joaquin county.

Next steps are for OCDetailing to wrap in matte black PPF.

I didn’t have plans to buy the Cybertruck this year and was waiting for the technology to keep improving but the $7,500 credit going away at the end of September forced my hand. I also took advantage of the 0% APR financing if you bought FSD + $1,000 loyalty credit + $1,000 because my wife is a teacher. Too hard to pass up.

also got a 77K VIN. Delivery team said it’s one of the nicer ones built. I haven’t seen any issues so far but fingers crossed.

Let me know what your favorite accessories are or if you have recommendations. This thing feels naked without accessories and lots of work to do.

I own a Model Y for wife/kids and overall very happy with this choice for myself.

Congrats and welcome! I had a 2020 Y before the CT, loved it but the CT is so much better (and we have a 2024 3 for my wife).

Congrats!

I noticed that the dark banding around the door edges don't seem to be present on your 77xxx VIN. Maybe engineers have refined the laser welding technique with less heat.

Welcome to the future. My wife also has a 2024 Y and it is a great car but the CT is just from a different universe.

Thanks all. I went for an AWD. While I like speed, the range is going to get used more and this is one of the reasons I held off for so long. I wanted Tesla to keep pushing the range up since I’m used to ICE vehicles with 400-500 miles of range. It’s likely going to be sometime before the battery technology can get to this range or Tesla decides to change their philosophy on limiting number of batteries in a vehicle.

it was a pretty huge shift going from a 2013 Prius to a Cybertruck. I bought the Model Y for the wife and kids to keep them safe but used the Prius as a daily driver. I do this a lot with technology and go a decade before upgrading. Did it recently with a computer and went from an old 2012 intel based CPU with NVIDIA 750 GPU to an AMD 9800 X3D and NVIDIA 4070 Ti Super. I love that feeling of the huge technology leap. What a rush!

Congrats on a great deal.

We all want more range, but as I'm older, I found it quite nice that my Cybertruck's range, is a close match for my 2018 Model 3's range. Since you have a Model Y in the family, it might work for you, too. Why?

It makes thinking about charging on roadtrips pretty easy, as I pretty much use the same stops. There's no rethinking on my part. Humans are creatures of habit. I am. The only roadtripping difference so far, is charging takes 50% more time. What used to be 13min stops in my 3 are now 20min stops in my CT. Not a big enough difference to matter. In fact, it reminds me of using Supercharger V2, when I first got my 3. So, I found the range similarity to be surprisingly helpful. One less thing to obsess over.

Good job and I hope you enjoy! Mine has been bullet proof. Ignore the FUD. They are incredible vehicles. My first Tesla too. Not my first truck but the BEST one I've owned.

I was surprised that I get more range out of the Cybertruck than my 2023 Model Y with induction wheels. The efficiency of Teslas just keep getting better overtime. Of course the Cybertruck also has a much bigger battery but for a vehicle of that size it’s amazing.

we just returned from a 2500 mile trip, 1250 with the 4x8 uhaul trailer, 1250 without
best we did was
50% range hit, trailer plus model YP, or 120 miles between deep charges
with no trailer we were at 280 wh/mile, deep charging, 200 miles
point is, better with the CT:
CT with AS tires yields 378 wh/mile or 310 miles, driving 68 mph or less in perfect weather, deep charge
CT with AT tires yields 392 wh/mile or 298 miles, same
CT with MT tires yields 410 wh/mile or 285 miles
best case 310 miles, 4.8 hours of straight driving
worst case 285 miles, 4.4 hours of driving
Consider the size and weight of the CT, 4.4 to 4,8 hours of 95% battery cap/65 Mph driving is great
always need to go to the bath room, walk a little after that window
tip, use FSD, keep speed max at 68 mph, monitor the energy app, its your friend for max efficiency

Given the efficiency of FSD, I will likely be driving with it most of the time to maximize range. You don't realize how inefficient humans are as drivers until you use FSD. We get tired, we have a hard time controlling acceleration and allowing regen breaking etc..

Tired of the range argument. It’s 325 v. 320 or 314 v. 301. No, range is not the reason. You settled for a slightly slower one because you wanted to save $20K, why can’t people just say that?

Model Y LR RWD is $4K less and gets 30 miles of range over the AWD. That’s an argument. CT is not that.
