Tesla gave me a model X plaid today as a loaner. The sound system in the model X plaid is superior in every way to the cyber truck. I could not believe how good it was. Anyone else agree with this?

Is that from equipment or acoustics from vehicle layout 🤔

There is also a psychological effect of hearing a new quality sound system once you are used to your own quality sound system. The new one will sound better temporarily because of its newness. It’s a bias. To overcome that bias you’d have to drive the X for a good while and then go back to the CT and see if you still feel the same way. The bias has a name but I can’t remember what it’s called.

I haven’t really spent a lot of time listening to the sound system in my wife’s model X but I can assure you that the sound system in my model S plaid blows my FS/CB out of the water. It’s not even close! More speakers higher fidelity zero rattles.

I don’t know about others but my truck sounds like a 90s era mini truck. Bumping and rattling at least at the bass level I want it to be at.

I was thinking about that just yesterday first time I’ve ever felt like I needed to take a factory optioned car (especially at this price point) somewhere and have it sound deadening. But I think that’s what I’m going to have to do.

Even setting that aside the system in the Model S Plaid is just objectively better. Because of your post I’m going to spend some time goofing around with my wife’s car today and see what I think about the X.

Yes. Our model x sounds better. Both are excellent in my opinion.
If you don’t feel that way though it is definitely worth isolating each speaker with the balance controls to make sure all are working well.

Grok:

Analysis

• Model S Plaid Advantage: The 2023 Model S Plaid’s audio system is well-documented with 22 speakers and 960 watts of power, designed for a premium listening experience. Its active noise cancellation and quiet cabin further enhance the audio quality, making it stand out for audiophiles. User reports and reviews consistently praise its clarity, soundstage, and ability to handle complex music tracks.

• Cybertruck Cyberbeast Limitations: The 2024 Cybertruck Cyberbeast’s audio system lacks detailed specs in the provided sources, but user feedback, including your experience, indicates it falls short of the Model S Plaid and Model X Plaid systems. The absence of specific speaker counts, wattage, or advanced features like ANC suggests it may be a less sophisticated setup, possibly optimized for cost or rugged utility rather than premium audio.

-————————————
ChatGPT:

Bottom line

Objectively, the Plaid system is higher-spec: more drivers (22 vs. 15), published 960 W output, and documented active noise cancellation. The Cyberbeast’s system is serious hardware (15 speakers, two subs, distributed amps on a 48 V backbone), but Tesla hasn’t published wattage or ANR for it. On the numbers we do have, the Plaid wins on audio spec.

——

It’s just one of the areas where the Cybertruck should be the undisputed superlative exemplar in Tesla’s lineup for every feature—but it’s objectively not.

It’s just baffling to me that they didn’t give it the undisputed best sound system they ever put in any car ever, but they didn’t.

I’m assuming that honor will be reserved for the new roadster if it ever sees the light of day. 🤷🏾 But in my mind, we should’ve been in that position at the top of the heap until the new roadster comes to be.

Please Tesla. Pretty pretty please with a cherry on top and sprinkles….make a model x with steer by wire and 4 wheel steering.
Throw in a front camera while you’re at it and I’ll whip out my checkbook instantly.
The recent “refresh” was weak sauce.
Thanks for the wheels covers and accent lights. I’d expect that from Teslaunch, not Lars and Franz and Wes.

I just picked up a 26 MXP for my wife and I don't think the sound system is better.

Can’t account for feelings, anatomical differences between your ear and my ear, and subjective preferences; but, the stats don’t lie. 22 speakers v. 15; 960 watts versus what I’ve seen reported as 560. It’s objectively worse. As both of the AI reported it’s no slouch, it’s just not the best that Tesla makes.

All I can say is I’m a very picky listener. Have many many guitars at home that I’ve bought for subtle tonal differences, keys , drums etc.
Was an undergraduate music student and I have very good relative pitch hearing. Not perfect, but I can tune an instrument by ear with no difficulty. I listen to multiple genres of music that are all over the spectrum in terms of emphasized frequencies. I also own both cars. I haven’t found either system leaving anything to be desired.

I do not remember the previous model x I drove have that quality of sound the plaid had. However it was a year ago I drove it.

i have been noticing just that. Had the X for 3 days and realizing it is about the same.

Objectively “good” and “sounds better” are kind of different thought right? As I understand it, in car audio you’re aiming for the flattest response curve for objectively good.
personal tastes come down to what frequencies your brain prefers and that is different from person to person.
