I have owned several Broncos including a Raptor and one design flaw is that the doors dig into the paint when the body flexes on very rough terrain. I haven’t yet tested the CT off road but I imagine it will be stiffer and there is no paint to chip. Jeep understands this and uses a bunch of foam and gaskets so you don’t chip your paint but Ford hasn’t quite figured it out yet. I don’t think you will be too impressed with the Bronco Raptor off road on smoother stuff compared to the CT but the 37s combined with the beefy frame and suspension design will allow you to do burlier stuff off road without worrying too much about breaking things. The Baja video showed the CT hitting its nose on a dip and that cracked the windshield, and Heavy D also broke the car on a dip, etc. Bronco Raptor will not bottom out as easily.
The recent software update adjusted the damping in Baja mode to better protect the hardware. You have to remember, the Cybertruck that was tested on the Baja trip is not the same Cybertruck we are driving today, the testing was to identify areas that could benefit from improvement.

The production version of the Hummer, on the other hand, is capable of being totaled simply by driving it at 55 mph on a levy maintenance/access road! The frame bent on a rather minor drainage dip that would have been nothing for the Cybertruck. Sure, they were going a bit too fast, but I wouldn't have expected the frame to get totaled. That thing is a real pig off-road.

I saw the GM guys testing in Moab many times over the course of 2021-2022 and they were always hogging the one DCFC in town. It was pretty mind blowing to me that they couldn’t just find an Airbnb or a hotel with charging. For all that testing in Moab nobody bothered to tell them “hey, this thing sucks because it’s too heavy. We need to fix the design.”

When I mentioned the CT they were EXTREMELY overconfident that they would be first to market. Not to flex or anything but I have a fairly early Hummer EV reservation but for whatever reason nobody has ever reached out to me to buy one. Meanwhile I’ve bought 3 Ford Broncos, 3 Rivians, and a CT in that same timespan. I don’t think GM is in the business of mass EV production because they know there are huge losses associated with scaling and they’re just posturing for their investors. Ford has been punished repeatedly for posting huge losses from EV production.

I suspect GM wanted to create the Hummer EV as a testament to what they could achieve on paper, namely 300 miles range, 0-60 times, etc. but the reality is that they never meant for this to achieve mainstream adoption. The CT on the other hand seems to be full steam ahead as far as production goes. Probably gonna hit 2k/week so that’s a real testament to the seriousness of Tesla in terms of what they are trying to achieve. At this point GM can’t be taken seriously IMO though Mary Barra is savvy about the business side and their profitability is impressive.

How does it feel to drive the raptor after driving the CT? I can’t stand getting in my old cars, the steering in them feels antiquated now.

After driving the CT the Raptor steering wheel is noticeable huge. The overall steering on the truck just takes more energy to move. I’ve still got the Raptor and am finding after a month that I’m glad to have it because of the attention the CT brings. Especially at my boys mid school. I’ve brought it twice to get him and it’s just too much attention IMO. I do love the steering though, it’s so dang easy to drive.
