May have been answered previously. But why are there two versions of software on the CT? Why are some (like mine) 2024.20.9, and some 2024.26?

Thanks!

Search release notes 2024.26 on google - will get new features list - im looking forward to weather info!

There's always several sw versions on the fleet - they roll them out, not big bang everyone at the same time....I'm still on .9 as are most I believe - it'll happen soon, hang tight!

I took 2024.26 last night and then had that conundrum of should I have waited due to reading that FSD 12.5 coming to 2024.20.10 first? I am not certain what taking 2024.26 means to FSD 12.5 or how long it will take me to get it once it rolls out? Maybe it's a quick turn around for FSD 12.5 to branch 2024.26? Had I known I may have paused on jumping from 2024.20.9 to 2024.26.

Just because you get one upgrade doesn't mean that you won't get the next. Actually, I don't think that there is any interaction.

Your vehicle gets offered what Tesla wants to offer it. And you get it when they want you to get it.

If 12.5 stays in the 2024.20.X release, getting 2024.26 means you will not get it.

All Beta testers knew the dance and wouldn't download newer versions so that we could get FSD. Tesla will not roll a car back, that's why there have been so many releases that people missed the new FSD, because they were on a higher base release. It was a huge issue with the "trial" many were ahead of FSD and couldn't do the trial until it caught it. People have ignored new releases many times and then received the new FSD.

All that said, you're right in that Tesla tags cars for certain releases and in the past have used this to remove people from being in the latest FSD testing pool based on hardware or even location. If you are getting the release, it's like because A) Tesla isn't planning to provide 12.5 to the CT in the 2024.20.X offering or B.) They aren't including your vehicle in the selected group that will get 12.5.

Sounds good, but not what happens.

All of the "this vehicle gets this, this one gets that" wasn't based on existing software, it was based on the vehicle, whether lifetime FSD was purchased, whether FSD rental was in place.

Having a Model 3 and Model Y, I'm normally behind in updates, not because I don't take them, because they aren't offered.

Cars without FSD generally have got the little feature updates quicker, they are on the main branch of the code. This also includes non-USA vehicles, as they don't have FSD.

Cars with FSD have often been over 6 months behind the main branch.

When this occurs, the branched are eventually merged, as was the case after Elon gave away the free month FSD last year. At that point, they had to merge the branch that I was on back into the main branch. (it also happened the year before).

The Cybertruck has been on the main branch, it hasn't had FSD. But as they are merging the branches back together, bringing my FSD branch up to date, everyone will be at the same point.

But soon afterwards, all of the FSD vehicles, including the Foundation Series, will fall back off of the main branch.

It may seem that it is the software that you on, but I have never heard evidence in any of the other forums that rejecting a branch made a difference.

It 100% is and there are no less than 1,000 post on TMC describing this.

I don't know how long you've been an FSD tester, but I got in with the SS on my first 3 Teslas. The first was easy, but the third, I had to game the software updates. You ignore main releases so that you can get on the next wave of FSD and I did. This has been a thing for Tesla with FSD even as recently as March, where some updated past the FSD release and couldn't get the trial...others ignored the software update and then when the trial started, they were able to get in FSD.

This is a known issue with Tesla and their updates in letting new vehicles and previously new testers into the FSD schedule.

Right now 12.5 is on 2024.20.X, not 2024.26.X, Tesla is (extremely slowly) allowing some CTs to 2024.26.X. If 12.5 is released for the CT on 2024.20.X, those who updated to 2024.26.X will not be able to get it until the 12.5 is updated on the main release.

What I’m confused about is why some have branched to 2024.26 vs. others going to 2024.20.9. Those on 26 didn’t go through 20.9, right? So at what point did they branch? And was it just a random thing? Is Tesla trying two separate branches, or will everybody eventually end up on the highest number branch? or the two paths merge? And to some of the earlier comments, if 12.5 comes through 20.9, will those on .26 just be late to the party?

I guess I’m surprised they’re pushing two versions. Unless some have volunteered to test a different version? I saw some references to testing in the comments as well.

I guess I’m looking for a straightforward couple of answers where maybe they don’t exist? The CT is our first Tesla. Naturally, I want to keep up with the latest and greatest stuff, so turned “advanced” on. And download and install the updates as soon as I’m aware of them.

That's a pretty common thing, it happens all the time. Your vehicle gets what Tesla wants it to. Sometimes, as this may be, the team doing A/B tests. i.e. which one is causing more issues.
