How hard is it to dismantle get rid of the tonneau cover mechanism? Would I just be better off leaving it open al the time. I’m looking to get rid of the Tailgate and just throw in a net tailgate permanently. Like this:

Wondering if Tesla will eventually offer this option.

For what reason? This would reduce range.

And look absolutely horrible...like it had been in an accident.

Sorry, just super interested in the use case here.

More aero drag in the nets than with a solid tailgate up. But, you probably have some specific use case the necessitates removing the cover permanently (weight savings?) rather than just roll it open and leave it open. The tailgate? I don't get why you wouldn't want to have it around just in case. But, I don't think that if FSD requires the camera that you'd be able to just disconnect the camera and have it work.

Plus, you'll lose the "rearview camera" if you remove the tailgate.

There have been reports that it won't activate in 12.4+ if the rearview camera is broken.

EDIT: I apologize for allowing my post to join the plethora of post replies that do NOT answer the OP question but rather question why it's a question at all.

Exactly…. This is the “Worst” suggestion I have heard on this forum by a mile. Why would anyone do this?!

I thought I would have to customize my Cybertruck a lot to make it look better than everyone else’s. I wasn’t counting on people intentionally making their look worse.

Relax, it’s part of the truck scene. Is this your first truck?

A lot of us don’t want the dump truck look in the rear, once I’m done I’ll decide whether to keep or not.

It should be noted, that the tailgate and cover probably add a bunch of rigidity to the specs of the vehicle.
