Conclusion: I’ll wait for FSD when it’s FSD, not FSD*

General analysis of thread: First hand reporting vs parroted EM talking points

Hopefully one day autonomous driving is what is says.

Thank you for your information OP!

The squircle makes it impossible to steer with my knees while eating a burger. FSD (Supervised) restores that ability. Without it I fear I might have starved. :D

Seriously though, those of us who are using this version of FSD (Supervised) are at an advantage. We're learning to pay attention at all times.

There's going to be a dangerous period between when the FSD improves to the point where it rarely needs interactions, and the point where it's flawless. During that time some drivers will become overly complacent.

Right now we can't nap and drive. Later we may get away with it sometimes when we shouldn't.

You've obviously not been researching or following Tesla's development plan, or either you're desperate to disparage FSD and chose this moment.

Tesla never has said FSD is 'good enough' right now as they are still in early to medium development of it through five (5) autonomy levels. FSD has currently not yet reached Level 4 - but Tesla nor the Tesla community has ever said they have reached Level 5 either.

You are obviously the type who reads one or two sentences of unofficial hype and runs with it - just the type of sheep that the MSM talking heads are looking for actually.

Tesla still has plenty of Disclaimers in their menus for FSD, and also the word "Beta" is still present in some of their menus. Do you even take the time to Read???

Tesla themselves are Also saying 'it's not good enough' because that's why you still have to have the cabin camera with Attention Monitoring feature, and be prepared to Take Over at any time. Tesla has not said anything otherwise yet. Tesla FSD development still has two more levels of autonomy to reach before it becomes 'good enough'. Almost everyone knows that (except you apparently).

Who am I kidding - you probably haven't even read this far in this post reply... SMH

If you have read this far - try doing your research please before posting a bunch of totally irrelevant wannabe hit piece style sound bites next time ...

Mainly directed at the thread title? Chill! As a CT owner, I can tell you what everyone else has written is true. It’s good but not great yet. We all know it will get better. No one said it won’t. Some said they will not use until it’s better. I use mine as much as possible but I think my feedback helps the development. Not having to wiggle the steering wheel is my favorite part of this version of FSD.

Imo Robotaxi is years away and is just going to be some BS reveal like the Roadster and humanoid robot. There's no way Tesla has a product capable of working as well as Waymo right now, just another stunt by Elon to keep the stock moving and interested in Tesla

The level of defensiveness from some here is interesting. Hey, I respect your feedback and don't feel the need to get into it with you. You have the right to be angry at whatever you wish. I understand how much you want to defend Tesla and I think the CT is a great product in general. But every product has some issues. I'm just sharing my experience and I see others doing the same now that I have looked a bit deeper. I hope FSD improves quickly but the gap to actual full self-driving seems to be bigger than I and some others would have expected given the anticipation and the amount of years that have gone by now. I'm sure if you have used FSD for years, you probably have seen leaps of improvement but as a newcomer, it's surprising how much more there is to go. No shade is intended, just honesty.
I've driven around 200 miles with the CT FSD and I've had to intervene three time due to my insecurities and lack of full trust. At times I felt that it was taking to long to apply brakes on highway traffic and I intervened. The other two were change of lanes with no signal which was odd. I've will not do any FSD inside the city till I get more highway miles on it.

Is a work in progress and I'm going to guess that we will be getting weekly updates to improve as the data is uploaded to Tesla. My expectations are that this is where I thought it would be but your assessment and observations are accurate as you are relating your personal experience.

So far, interventions have been required every trip, highway and town.

Let it run over a curb turning right. And agree with other posters, left turns are sharp, a bit too close.
Stopped it from hitting a construction cone - it was doing pretty good navigating through the construction, stopping with the worker's Stop sign, etc...
Waiting until last half mile to exit highway in traffic is a bit unsettling.
At a traffic light, it was going straight, but got into the left turn only lane (tricky, painted arrow on the road covered by car in front, but obvious to humans) ... and went straight thru the intersection anyways.
Speed adjustments are required fairly often.

And, I am SO GLAD that it was released already! It is FUN to participate in the progress and witness the human-like maneuvers that it is doing now! Auto-park is also fun with no traffic. Auto pilot would be nice for some highway driving when I don't want lane changes.

I think it works really good. But I've never been in a Waymo auto so know nothing about that. -- But it is a vast improvement over the what the truck had. It can simply drive on its own just about anywhere. -- Needs improvement on both right and left turns from major streets onto side streets if there is no stop sign on the major street. Otherwise turns are working for me.

It’s called “Supervised” FSD. This means it’s the drivers responsibility always. If you don’t like it, don’t use it. Travel back in time 10 years by using your other vehicles antiquated cruise control.

I understand it's the best thing out there for the moment in terms of being close to autonomous but it certainly isn't good enough yet to drive itself without interventions in urban areas. If Robotaxis is the same as FSD 12.5.5, it would be highly risky I think. I love Tesla so I really want it to be good but it cuts corners too sharply and also misses things that it cannot classify such as plastic roadsigns that stick up in the middle of the street (it does see cones and other objects though). As an example of a dangerous scenario, mine made a turn and instead of going on the road, it went onto a local light rail track and followed that path instead which could be disastrous if one happened to have been oncoming.
If you have been driving older Teslas with FSD you would see how much better the CT is. With the new Tesla Super Computer and total automation of visual input the CT will rapidly get better and better.

I disagree.

The CT 12.5.5 is a bit of a regression to my MS and MY (both HW3) 12.5.4, because it's so new.

It's making mistakes on turns, in regards to intent on vehicles, and light sensitivity that I haven't seen since V10 of FSD. Tesla knows this, though. They've intentionally assigned this as a early access build.

It will get better.

You have just started your FSD journey my friend. Been using FSD since 2018 when it would slam on the brakes when trying to pass Trucks. That was a hair raising time.

Dumb question. How do I enable it and disable it quickly? Gonna try it on my way home if not crazy busy.

I love the FSD but the left hand turns cut short most - but not all - of the time. I Las feel that it hugs the left side of the right side of the lane....that is fine on the highway but not so good in an urban setting. I have been very happy with the FSD on the highway...excellent merging, lane chnaging etc.

That's cool to say supervised, but why cause cognitive dissonance by saying "Full Self Driving" when it's not full self driving at all? I think that's where a lot of people get hung up.
Do you understand where the terminology "full self-drive" came from? I'd say the vast majority of the folks out there don't understand the origin of the term, and why it matters.

I'll wager that they announce 2 cities on 10/10 for initial testing, and it will be slated for Q1 2025.

They will probably have a couple hundred units available for it.
