Experience in very cold weather (excl. Battery)

Curious about others experience with the CT in very cold weather (less than 15F), excluding effects on battery/range.
My experience thus far has been a bit strange. The heater is surprisingly loud, whines, and sounds like it's struggling. Occasionally when I go over 60mph the motor gets very loud. Not sure if either of these are normal so would be interested what others are experiencing.

Yes - pretty noisy when it is 10 and below. I do not hear it very much on road with music and my tire noise. Putting it to the test here in vermont. Yes - that road is all ICE!

Yup, can hear the heat pump cranking inside and out, especially when running defrost. Doors were frozen shut today even after running defrost, the windows were stuck to the gaskets and audibly popped open as they broke free. The snowflake icon also never seems to go away. Did a 1hr drive at 55-70mph and it was on the entire time. I also have it set to 80%, but most mornings its at 72% and also has the blue bar showing reduced range from cold batteries below even that. All that to say, my ICE car was not totally dissimilar aside from the battery state stuff.

Think it's the difference in cells. My MX does show it from time to time, but preconditioning will make it go away or a few minutes of driving will too. I still see the snowflake even hours after L2 charging at home. The winter noises of the CT reminds me of my Rivian R1S vs my MX.

This is my first EV. My garage is set at 40 and in the morning it still has a snowflake.

Wow, be sure to watch out for that 2”-3” of snow…it will get you…stuck?!

but dont forget they are very happy in Norway and Sweden with Teslas in the cold

I have Duratracs on it. They were the winter recommendation by Tesla but I’m thinking of switching to blizzaks. The ice is bad and blizzaks would be better. The duratracs are good in the snow tho. We will see. I have chains handy if needed. But I should practice putting them on a few times…

Yes, 40F will give you a snowflake. This is how batteries work. I'll see a big drop in range on my Zero even if it's 70F outside during the spring and fall if it remained cloudy and 40F in the evenings and morning and my bike didn't get access to direct sun. I don't have a preheating option!

Tesla may have also made the software be more sensitive to display reductions in range due to weather - it knows it's cold outside if it has access to the network.

Reports are the AT tires are pretty terrible at slushy and icy conditions. Their tread is not deep and their compound is stiff.

That's similar to what I have read. Would probably just get all season three peak tires.
