Last year, we had a blackout lasting about 24 hours after the hurricane. It was the first real-life test for the system, and it passed. We had power until the lines were fixed. Of course, the AC was hooked up to a non-backed-up panel. So, without AC use, the Powerwall did its job perfectly.

Here is my setup:
• 15.2 kW system with a single Powerwall+
• 2,100 sq ft house with a single AC unit
• Located in Orlando, FL, with an average of 5.4 peak sunlight hours per day
This setup covers all house needs plus charging for my Model Y. Excess generated energy is...
Yeah, that’s another point to consider! Definitely you can set up your PW to feed the house during peak time to reduce your bill. PowerShare won’t give you that option.
Keep in mind that PowerShare is backup for backup option. CT battery is 10 times more than PW capacity. But if you want seamless backup power (uninterrupted) go and get PW with solar panels. As much as you can afford. 2-3 would be great but even 1 PW will help with short outages. Evaluate how...
I like the CT minimalism, and OEM accessories cover almost all my needs, although they are definitely overpriced. I’d like to have a built-in ramp as has been presented in 2019. However, I believe it’s only feasible for Tesla engineers and should come out in later CT versions.
I haven’t seen those. They might be some sort of Tesla beta testers. Your PowerWall is the controller that will trigger CT to start feeding your house. That requires new firmware to enable this functionality.
Just think about it: why would I need PowerShare today if I have PowerWall? ? I’m already covered against blackouts. It would be strange to pay an extra $2000 for the Gateway and another ~$4000 for Tesla-certified installation. I can wait, and I’m sure most PW owners will choose that path...
Yes, the question was about UWC installation and using it for PowerShare, so I assumed that he has PowerWall (PW). Otherwise, it wouldn’t be questionable, since for non-PW installation, the Gateway is a must and is offered only as a bundle with UWC. A Tesla-certified electrician is required for...
OK. Summarizing all the replies, if you plan to install just UWC/WC you don’t need Tesla certified electrician. If you want to have PowerShare functionality then Tesla does require certified electrician appointed by Qmerit who handles all PowerShare projects as of right now.
If you don’t have a...
