I still feel pretty much the same way. I reserved mine in 2019 during the event. I wanted a vehicle that could replace my luxury sedan, SUV and sports car, and it did. The only thing I never anticipated was all the hate and politics that would eventually come with it. Still no regrets about...
I've asked Jackie at ProtectaClear about what she used for buffing out the damage. Some of it was too severe to be completely removed, but in a real world situation, it's unlikely that any Cybertruck body would encounter such a salty solution and sit under a vinyl cover in the California heat...
First image is the corrosion damage with a minimal coat of pre-treatment:
Second image is the corrosion damage with no pre-treatment at all:
No pictures were taken of the double coat test results because there was no damage to be seen.
We received our latest test results for a pre-treatment solution to be applied to the Cybertruck stainless steel prior to installing our magnetic panels to help prevent corrosion and pitting with prolonged use without removal for cleaning. Here is what the tests revealed...
The first test was...
1) Weight of magnetic kit is approximately 120 lbs; less than a small person, so no impact on range.
2) Research has shown that covering the stainless steel on the Cybertruck with any vinyl or PPF product over time can result in discoloration and corrosion. Our removable magnetic panel kits are...
The products you’ve mentioned are listed as “Magnetic Security Signs”. That means these signs are intended to help protect your truck against vandalism more so than to project a political view. Since the anti-Elon side seems to be causing the most trouble, that’s why the signs are themed that...
Rain itself is not the real issue. It’s salt and water combined that can cause corrosion. I’m not sure how much salt remains on the roads in the PNW. The hope is that a double application of those coatings should allow prolonged use of the magnetic covers. In the southwest like Southern...
We are most likely going to recommend a double coat of ProtectaClear or Everbrite prior to applying the magnets for wet or harsh weather conditions. We are completing another corrosion test with those products this coming week.
Two people definitely makes it easier and faster, especially for the larger pieces. If you don't have any assistance, a lightweight work table, especially one with wheels so you can move it around your vehicle might help.
Thickness of the magnetic material has little to do with visible seams. We are currently improving the design to make some seams less noticeable by tightening up the dimensions of each piece. This is a second generation prototype. The third generation should be ready for delivery to customers.
Like I posted earlier, you definitely don't want to run these through an automated car wash. Because these kits are magnetic, you can peel the entire kit off of your vehicle in less than a minute and reuse it later. Putting them back on takes a bit longer, but the fact you can remove and reuse...
It's a 30 mil high energy magnetic sheet with vinyl (similar to automotive wrap vinyl) bonded to the outer surface. It's a pretty durable surface, but large rocks could cause trouble as with any wrap. The difference here is that you can replace pieces easily if worn or damaged.
I wouldn't...
Rounded edges will be tightened up significantly on most corners and eliminated in some places. Certain smaller sheets will be combined together to form larger panels resulting in fewer individual pieces.
We will also be creating a network of authorized installers so you can have your kit...
