Great question. I think as the water freezes it would expand towards the less resistant foam and/or spline and not break the glass but I live in southern Arizona so not an expert. If I encounter freezing temperatures I will let you know.

Not sure what you mean by "backer photo". The only item I installed in the space between the glass and flap was the screen spline. The spline package states .155 Dia. Hope this answers your question.

The spline has been tested at the car wash and on a trip to San Diego with heavy rain. Very little water got in.

Yes turn signal is much too early. Also, would be good to get into the right or left hand lane(depending on turn direction) earlier than just a couple of blocks prior to turn.

If I understand you correctly you can change the setting to keep the rear view camera on so it does not change to the side camera when using the turn signal. That is my preference.

Have a membership to auto car wash and go once a week or more if needed. I was tentative at first, but I have not had any problems. Go through the wash then do a quick wipe down and all done. Looks great!
