Not for continuous motion at highway speeds on flat ground, let alone climbing a hill, or towing, etc.
Volt has an ICE that's 4 to 5 times that power, and it can barely pull the car up a 5% grade with an empty battery. And the Volt weighs 60% of what the Cybertruck does.
200hp is a bare...
Software unlock more charging speed? Very plausible.
Software unlock more kWh? Doubtful, unless they sandbagged the heck out of it to start.
OEM replace with newer tech? Don't hold your breath that it will be possible / offered, especially not at a palatable price.
But the range extender bed...
I got one as well.
Chevy sending a "don't forget about the Silverado! (That you can't buy yet and the way things are going for the Ultium platform, won't be for a long long long time)" email was bad enough.
This one was straight up poor taste on Tesla's part, though.
I'm getting the vibe that this accessory is designed to be installed once and stay in. Removable would of course be more useful, despite the PITA, but my money's on put it in once and done.
Kind of a cheat mode to keep the price under the tax credit cap, but it's a logical way to go about it.
I didn't expect the midgate based on all the structural photos we'd already seen. But that and the price are the biggest reasons I might just wait for a Telo. Maybe not. Still on the fence until I drive one probably.
I'm not saying it can't be done. But road vehicles that are designed for 80+mph are a little bit of a different story than tractors. Belly mowers, 3 point hitches, universal skid steer plates, etc have also had a long time to standardize and work out the bugs.
Right, I wasn't imagining fully automated or robotic connection. A manual electrical and physical connection is going to need some serious engineering ("idiot proofing").
Decent thought. Alignment, dust / dirt rejection, and a few other considerations could be real headaches. But I'll call this plausible too.
Hopefully noone does like that Nio (?) in China and drop the pack on the road.........
Good find / callback. I forgot about that.
But yes that's my number one guess, something like that but probably flatter so it can actually hold some cargo too. If it can V2L / V2H to the home when not otherwise in use, I bet it would be pretty popular.
Tesla is doing the Dutch auction thing. Starting high, making room to come down if the demand isn't there. De-contented versions are always possible later.
Definitely better to do it this way than the garbage 1 year no resale.
Glad to see Tesla is no longer stonewalling on V2L / V2H.
11.5kW out the NACS port / 9.6kW V2L is pretty good.
I wonder how long it will be until third parties reverse engineer this, or if it will be "have to buy the entire Tesla ecosystem" forever...
Total spitball guesses in order of likelihood in my opinion
1. Trailer accessory + custom (proprietary?) wiring harness. The Telo development team had been talking about something like that, and attempts to make a new industry standard plug/ receptacle for such a thing
2. Loadable spare...
