They shouldn’t even remove the camera housing and just cut around it. The FSD stuff will be fine. It’s the clarity for humans especially at night + rain. It was pretty much unusable in that condition.
Mine has been close to 1% an hour, but I have full sentry mode running at my apartment complex but it’s been about 1 miles an hour at the house with no sentry.
I had my normal shop do my windshield for $600 (xpel xr plus). They have been flawless for 15-20 cars that they worked for me/family/ friends but for the CT windshield, it was bad. The windshield had snowflake and ghosting. They admitted they tried their best but were not up to the challenge of...
Depends how you look at it. I worked at Tesla and can use the car without the screen (thx for voice prompts and phone mount).
The issue was my SO and family that might drive the truck, for them it’s a major concern.
Man I was stuck in the same boat but my issues were the screen and LTE.
My SA is horrible in terms of communication. I just had it wrapped and now it’s back at the SA.
The 1st time problems are killing the ownership experience. 3/5 weeks the car has been at the SA.
SA was able to do a 12v reset to get the screen working but the screen wheel reset would break it agian.
Finally the blank screen was apparently fixed yesterday. I still have no idea on LTE.
Truck is still in service. 20+ days now.
Make sure the shop you go to has experience. My normal shop (did 15-20 cars for myself/family and friends with minimal issues) tinted my windshield and it came out with all this snow flaking and ghosting. They were up front and said that’s the best they can do and refunded me.
Had my truck...
My personal thoughts are they got the comfort part down (which is why the gle/gls have it), but not the durability down. Especially because all G wagon models need to do schockl (a pretty insane mountain range next to the G wagon factory) like 100 times or something crazy.
Unfortunately the CT can’t do that (or at the same speed). MB system also has magnetic ride control and a lot more fancy than our air suspension.
(Ex Tesla engineer and now MB engineer for context)
The original shop only had Xpel (they did 15-20 cars for myself, family and friends and no such issues).
They were going to retry it but were not confident about it so they were upfront about it and gave a refund.
OCD does carry other film but 3M is what they have used the most on CT so just...
Ahh man, mine was exactly like that, add rain into the mix and it was borderline dangerous to drive.
None of those issues now. I was talking to Joe (owner of OCD) and he was saying that the CT is easily the hardest windshield on any vehicle. A lot of shops are installing it against the glue...
Yea OCD in Fremont redid mine with 3m crystalline and no issues. It’s only been 3-4 days but already 10 times better. Also tried it in rain + night which was close to unusable before but now it’s as if there is no tint.
I always do xpel PPF and ceramic on top for all my cars. Makes a huge difference for all cars with paint, for the CT it helps the windshield in rain a lot.
