Well, anyone considering it should watch this first. Maybe it doesn't happen to EVERY Uber-used Tesla, but it happened to this one, and Tesla said that is an "expected" result and would not replace the battery at their cost. They first estimated $1000 to fix it, but when he brought it in and...
Torque News seems convinced it is only 1000, based on previous Tesla limited editions. But if Tesla makes as many as they can sell, that's not really a "Limited Edition," which Tesla has officially identified the Foundation Series as.
Today's TFLEV (The Fast Lane EV) gave some insight into the likely "take rate" of foundation series. Their reservation was 49,499 in line, and they just received an invitation to order one of the 1000 Foundation Series CyberTrucks. Since they are in the Denver area, it appears that invites are...
Don't forget to factor in the cost of a new battery every year. Kim Java's neighbor used his model 3 as an Uber driver, supercharging twice a day. Killed the battery. Tesla said that is expected durability, and not covered by warranty.
Yeah, I can't find a video I watched about an EV (Rivian? I can't remember) towing a camp trailer across I-70's charging desert from Green River to Salina, and he ran out of battery. But no fear, he used the trailer's generator to charge the EV. It took overnight to recharge just a dozen miles...
Can a Tesla (CT in particular) charge while driving? It would be interesting, in a road-trip or towing scenario, to see how much a large generator like that would extend range between stops.
Given a few assumptions, like range is cut in half at 70mph, and is about 1/3 when towing...
Most people don't do most things with their trucks. Most people do things that most other people don't do with their trucks. Trucks are the original utility vehicle, and have been used in different ways by different people since the Model T. Making up stats about how many people won't do what...
I suspect you don't camp much. Where I live lots of people have trucks. Lots of them hunt and camp. And of lot of them sleep in the bed of their trucks when hunting/camping just to be up and away from the critters. Some have shells, some sleep under the stars, and a few even have truck bed...
This will all happen naturally over the next 2-3 years. Those who are insanely excited about the truck will pay any price. But those will run out fast. As demand settles down and production gears up to the full 10,000 units per month, it will take a few years to work through the production...
Well, there's this article that sounds pretty optimistic. https://www.torquenews.com/11826/tesla-confirms-cybertruck-solar-panel-cover-according-elon-musk-can-generate-15-miles-day
But count me skeptical.
At 15 mile/day, and 2.4 miles per kWh, assuming a generous 5-hours equivalent of solar...
I wouldn't hold your breath. That was a "show" delivery of 10 vehicles. There's been no evidence that bulk production has started. There aren't dozens of trucks rolling out of GigaTexas every day. There are apparently no more deliveries this year. And it's not clear when deliveries will start in...
2 and 1/2 years to make 17K CyberTrucks? That seems conservative. If production is ramped up in a year from now (which seems quite likely) it should only take 4-5 months to make that many. At that rate, the 1.5M reservations is a 50-year backlog!!
Oh, it get's plenty bright. On my Pixel 7 Pro it is so bright that at night, if I don't have my finger completely covering the "sensor" area of the screen when I use it, I'm almost blinded by the uncovered portion.
