Has there been any news, images, reviews, drawings, pricing, specs, capabilities, statements made....anything at all on the solar cover?

It is by far the most interesting accessory to me.

Nothing has been shown yet. I think someone found that info in the app. Seems like it will end up being something that folds out and you use it while camping. Nobody knows though.

I would imagine it’s basically 6- 8 or more solar panels that are essentially rolled out on top of the truck…attaches by magnets at the attachment points along the roof and bed…then is plugged in thru charger port at rear driver side wheel well. My guess ?

Still looking and can't find shit. Was this just more lip service?
There is no solar cover. It was never promised. It was barely mentioned at one point as something they were looking into and hoping to one day have as part of the vehicle to add up to 15kw per day in appropriate sunlight.

Personally, I'd rather have the strong tonneau cover vs 15kw/day added back. Most people will have it in a garage or it will be shaded part of the day. Tesla isn't going to mass produce for the edge use cases.

Well, there's this article that sounds pretty optimistic. https://www.torquenews.com/11826/te...according-elon-musk-can-generate-15-miles-day
But count me skeptical.
At 15 mile/day, and 2.4 miles per kWh, assuming a generous 5-hours equivalent of solar production per day, the CT would still need 1250W of solar between the tonneau cover and the roof. Even if that is possible (it would take more than 6 m^2 of solar panels), 15 miles per day is not much. And you are at the mercy of the weather, of course. If you want a usable solar-powered vehicle, the 40 mile/day Aptera may be the better option. https://aptera.us/

Agree bkervaski.20196. I don’t remember a solar cover ever being promised by Tesla. In fact I remember Elon saying adding solar panels was impractical and not enough surface area to produce enough energy to be worth doing. Why would they bother with manufacturing something that 99% of people would never need or buy? Most charge at home or superchargers on the road. That’s why the range extender is genius. They apease the people who do or “think” they need more range. Anyone that is familiar with Tesla and their supercharging network soon learn that 300+ miles is the perfect sweet spot.

I would call it more than "barely mentioned." Elon said there "Will be an option to add solar power that generates 15 miles per day."

We should all reply to that tweet and see if he responds

I'd consider 1 post from Elon "barely" as I've seen no other supporting statements from Tesla regarding a solar tonneau cover as depicted.

However, they did mention something during the delivery event, assuming it's going to be some kind of throw over blanket to trickle charge that maybe stores in the bed sub-trunk? That would be cool and wouldn't take away from the durable tonneau cover.

Everybody thinks whenever Elon says something that's a company promise. It's not. It's a goal and sometimes those goals get course corrected.

Also, we now know that the "wings" are structural so that's out too.

It would be cool to see a solar retractable tonneau cover option ... if it's durable and can take abuse.

Thinking critically ... Tesla isn't going to mass produce for edge case customers ... they have to get the price down first which will take a few years.
