There are so many design variables Iām not sure we can understand the parameters affecting the rated payload. The body/frame may be strong, ditto the suspension but maybe brakes are a limiting factor, when the battery is full and regen is limited. Or maybe the āplasticā bed, chosen for weight...
Several comments state that there is still 12V. Is this true? I realize a few components may require 12V but I assume thatās all converted at point of load from 48V. A few days ago I myself was grumbling about lack of 12V cigarette lighter sockets for add-ons but after learning about USB C PD...
The CTās standard tires are a mild all-terrain pattern, like the optional tires on the Rivian off road package accompanied by 20ā rims. The Rivianās standard 21ā tires which do provide longer range, are also M+S but with all-season tread. Despite what Jason Cammisa said in his video, the...
I saw a CT oncoming on the other side of the freeway at night a few weeks ago. This was before the delivery event and subsequent videos which clarified that the full-width light is in fact a DRL and not the headlights. Regardless of what you call it, on the CT I saw, that upper light was bright...
^^ It does seem that synchronizing the two motors to the same rpm should be easy and instantaneous, without needing an actual ālockedā connection. And while I agree that Rivianās SW capabilities probably arenāt as good as Teslaās, if itās easy Iām surprised they havenāt done that yet. Just...
@HaulingAss re-reading my post I realize that I didnāt write it very well. Thanks for your comments. I think you and I actually agree. When I said that itās not really a differential, I was thinking of the tri-motor rear, or either end of the quad motor Rivian where itās not mechanically a diff...
True, but the hardware to monitor the different side-to-side wheel rpm and the software to manage it for the real traction situation need to work quickly and effectively. A ālocking differentialā - and yeah itās not really a differential - that forces the two wheels to rotate at the same speed...
I have an early 900 Monster, not exactly a sport bike but plenty fast. I also briefly raced AFM (Northern California) on a GpZ550. Did I mention Iām old?
Iāve held an SCCA National Competition License (amateur club racing, but wheel to wheel not track day) and have owned motorcycles for almost 50 years, currently ride a Ducati. At my age I like torque and easy passing, and being able to keep to the speed limit on mountain passes in the west. So...
Whether itās dual or tri-motor, I donāt see any place on the CT off-road screens, Overland or Baja, for the diff lock. Iāve watched Jason Cammissaās and the Top Gear videoās and thereās really no discussion of off road capability. 0-60 in 2.6 seconds is fun once or twice, and I acknowledge that...
I logged in and confirmed that my $100 reservation was still in effect. Then that was essentially confirmed by the email offering $1000 off any new Tesla except the CT. And this evening I got a text message with the same offer. Interestingly, other than confirming my reservation back in 2020...
I have a slider in my Tacoma with 5ā bed. Iāve never opened it in 8 years, EXCEPT to transport long pieces of lumber or PVC pipe. Even the 12x12ā (?) opening is very useful for 10 to 12ā long materials for me as a homeowner, not tradesman. But Rivianās doesnāt open either.
Iāve driven a quad motor R1T but only on the road, and with the Rivian guy in the passenger seat. So while I did floor it in sport mode I didnāt drive it hard otherwise. Didnāt notice any torque vectoring on pavement. But, reviews that I trust say the lag time and effectiveness just donāt match...
I remember when Chevy went to 16ā rims in the late eighties, and my ā93 Land Cruiser had 16ās ⦠some guys were grinding the brake calipers to fit 15ās, because 16ā tires were only available in limited sizes at high cost. And now 18ā is considered small. FWIW Iāve never owned a vehicle with...
A 285/65 is the same sidewall height as a 245/75. I guess these heavy trucks need big wheels to clear big brakes, but Iād prefer to see a 315/70-17 for more sidewall flex and the same 35ā diameter. Though the 285/65ās probably handle better on pavement at full pressure.
I assume CT range specs will be with the tonneau closed which could really help reduce drag (cd, not frontal area of course. My current pickup got slightly better highway mpg consistently with a cab-high shell. As for size perceptions, I havenāt seen it yet except on the freeway, but our local...
